RAM shootout
Someone recently mentionned being p**sed at a recent memory review, so I thought I'd post a link to this roundup.
It includes: Crucial, Corsair, Mushkin, OCZ, and GeiL. This guy actually pushed them all hard, to max voltage and clock, using an Epox 8RDA+. |
I don't care what he says, I'd never buy OCZ ram for any price. There are too many risks involved, and I've received a "PC3200" stick that was really PC2700 when you took the sink off. Screw that crap.

DITTO!!!
I've gotten burned in the past from OCZ, buying memory that review sites said was the best only to find out that it couldn't even run stable at stock settings. I've used and recomended Corsair exclusively for a couple of years now and have never been dissapointed. Sure they cost a little more, but you get what you pay for. |
Then i must be lucky :D. I'm running with a stick of OCZ 2700 performance series for sometime now , and with no problem.
Ok, so i had access to it, and after being tested i got it but i cant say i'm disappointed. |
TerraMex: You got very lucky.
From what I have read and can speculate.... the review sites get PREMIUM hand-picked OCZ memory sticks that can go up and beyond what they actually rated the chips for. That way they get great reiviews and then they can sell crap for less. I can not PROVE this but it sounds consistant with everything I have read and heard. So TerraMex; you got a hand-picked one...... |
What I missed is a same settings max FSB comparision, just wonders how will perform that crucial at cas 2, they use to be very conservative in factory settings.
|
I know i have a hand picked one.... i picked it. ;)
The deal was simple , a friend of mine had the stick previously and we made some extensive testing. So i was pretty safe. And besides, it has a lifetime warranty on it. Cant feel safer than that. However, most of my friends have OCZ sticks with excepcionally low problems. I've read mostly in foreign forums (since i am from Portugal) the problems related to these memory sticks, and not "just a few". It is kinda weird since here we havent experienced those types of problems. Maybe we got a good batch. But we dont really have that much choise for performance memory, there's alot of OCZ, but finding Corsair is very hard. Twinmos and Kingston already can be found at regular quantities but only recently. |

Thanks.
I see there's no reseller in Portugal. Or even Spain. Thats why most order from the Uk , and personally i dont order out pc material, if there's a problem, then is a task of epic porpotions to solve it. I'm a fan of the local hardware store. ;) |
Well I found the offended member. His complaint was that this very review included an OCZ stick that was rated as 2700, not 3200 like all the others, throwing off the results of the cost graph.
Did anyone catch that? |
Yes.
And I also didn't like the fact that none of the modules tested were spec'ed the same. It's not a good sign. Comparing apples and oranges and trying to relate cost with it. I normally just toss reviews like this one out. Unless someone tries to use it as justification for a disscussion, then I have to bring up reason and their justification goes right out the window. |
