Pump test at overclockers

http://overclockers.com/articles723/

JoeC tests 6 pumps for flow rate using a stopwatch and quart jug... and miraculously has .1 GPH resolution. I couldn't find any pressure drop info on the loops tested, so the results are totally meaningless anyway. Then the VA 1300 is declared a winner based on prices not shown in the article.

The only meaningful conclusion that you can actually find is that pumps perform nowhere near their rated free-flow spec in a real system, and that pumps with a lower free-flow rating can actually perform much better than those with higher ones.

But we already knew that.

It was meant (IMO) to demonstrate the typical flow rates that people achieve.

Strangely, I thought most people achieved 100 gph by now: I was surprised to see 50 gph.

I estimate my flow-rate to be around 120gph (that's just a ballpark now), and I'm using a top-notch pump: the MD-20-RZT. That's maybe a bit conservative, but I would still find it very hard to believe that most people are in the same neighbourhood... and considering the cost of my pump, they'd better not be with their Via Aquas :p
