Water Wetter effectiveness
Borrowing a link that pHaestus just posted...
http://www.bunkermentality.net/wetter.html It's a comparison of Water Wetter, at different concentrations. Note how too much of the stuff has a drastic effect! Adding an observation from Bill Adams, this stuff also leaves a thin film throughout someone's rig, so he swears to stay away from it. Now I don't want to knock it down (anymore than I already have!), so let's see if we can say something positive! It's something we want as an anti-corrosion agent. Ok, your turn. |
Uuuuuuummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm........ it's pink!! (so the girls will like it? ) :D

I've got water-wetter in my system, if I remember right it's sitting right around Redline's recommended mixture. I've only got a socket-thermistor myself so I can't really give you anything meaningful in terms of numbers, and I haven't tried running straight distilled water to compare against, but I'm very happy with the way it performs relative to the air-cooling I had before (I can get a 200Mhz stable OC now - I could not OC at all - and I tried - with the air-cooler, and it's also way quieter now) and it keeps me happy knowing I have an anti-corrosion agent in my coolant that is also toxic to a large number of things that could grow in there (though I do want a better growth-prevention additive still). |
wow, thats a rather old article (and the MSD has been discussed forever)
where are you going with this Null-A Ben ? Tim is pretty good at testing, but the temp resolution/accuracy is sufficient to say no gross effect on cooling and no more "It's something we want as an anti-corrosion agent." well, I do not far easier to not use aluminum, and if aluminum then + antifreeze here is a 'project' for someone: compare antifreeze to distilled water at concentrations of 10, 20, and 30% shitcan the theory, anyone got some actual results ? mota ?? |
I was trying to compare the actual composition, that can be obtained from an MSDS to that of the "blue stuff". The MSDS may have been discussed over at OC, but I don't believe that we ever covered it here.
I really don't care to bring up the ole' aluminium thing again , and so, I have no interest in "testing" the use of anti-freeze. |
As yis are talking about additives. I am using bandsaw cutting fluid in my setup . I was wondering will this stop corrosion in my system as i have an aluminium rad and a copper block.
|
Why the heck are you using an Aluminium rad? At least here in the US copper rads go for almost nothing.
On a tangent, my professor brought up corrosion today as part of a lecture. Here is in pdf form: http://engr.arizona.edu/~mse110/anno...Slides/L26.pdf Slide four discusses copper corrosion due to water and oxygen. As he put it, corrosion puts you against thermodynamics. Whats the short version of the first and second laws of thermo? Something like: "You can't win." "You can't break even either." So yeah don't mix metals. |

I received Water Wetter's MSDS this morning:
Dilsopropyl alcohol ether: 1-40% Tri isopropyl alcohol diether: 1-40% Sodium molybdate: 2-10% Tolyltriazole: 1-3% Polysiloxane polymer: n/a (there are CAS#'s for those) Some more interesting bits of info: Trade name: RED LINE WaterWetter chemical name: glycol ether mixture specific gravity: 1.09 Water solubility: miscible @ 25C odor: faint odor stable: yes incompatibility: strong acids, oxidizing agents polymerization: will not occur thermal decomposition: oxides of carbon including carbon monoxide Ventilation: recommended gloves: rubber gloves recommended Heck you know what? Take a look at it yourselves! |
Here's a clip from an OC thread:

Given the above, "Water Wetter" is perfect for inhibiting copper corrosion, but I can't see it be any good for aluminium?!?
