My Water cooled pc
 

I've been reading posts here for sometime.

I've got the pc stated in the sig.

Anyways, my Maze3-1 is working great. At stock speed the cpu does go over 87f idle and 93f load is about the range. 77f ambient avg Idle.

I run tap water and a little water wetter. I've changed the water once within the past 9months. And I've noticed that water wetter lives residue inside the pump and tubing. Is this normal? I'll probable buy new tubing within the next 3 months.

Anyways Looking for more info on this stuff. Suggestions to lower the temps, if possible.

Looking towards the future to add video and chipset blocks. Maybe peltier.

You just had the same experience that BillA (Unregistered)encountered. I believe he referred to it as a thin slimy deposit all over the insides.

He wasn't able to identify it.

So to answer your question, yes it's normal, but certainly not desired.

Would Isopropyl alcohol fix this? would it erode my tubing at an accelerated pace? I've got a bottle of 91%. Will it help cooling much and or clean out this pink crap? I'd prolly rebuild my cooling.

Nexttime I redo the tubes I'm going to go without water wetter.

Anyone know of other coolants doing this over the long term.

Instead of ditching the wetter, why not stop using the tap water? Tap water is full of bacteria, calcium, and other minerals. I used tap water once for several months and it nearly clogged my block with all the calcium deposits.

Use distilled, or deionized, water instead.

Water Wetter does not leave a residue, its the tap water. Use distilled water. Use isopropyl alcohol to remove the slime, then replace it with distilled water.

Like hell it doesn't. I've developed quite a slime buildup from Water Wetter in my own system, to the point where I stopped using it. It couldn't have been the water since I only use distilled.

The Water Wetter comes out of solution over time, is how BillA put it, I think (don't kill me, if I'm wrong I'll fix it).

I believe that's how the Watter Wetter is anti-corrosive... it coats all of the metals in the system with its slime, preventing them from being in direct contact with the coolant.

hmm, well how will I clean out this stuff from the radiator, block, and pump later? Isopropyl, or something else? Will the copper need something special. I will get new tubing soon enough. I wanna really change the whole layout on the inerds.

Also, If i were to put a 226w peltier on the cpu, and run video and chipset blocks, will it even be possible with a black ice extreme.

Maybe if I add a second 120mm fan on the other side of the radiator? I liked the idea of an ice probe in a res. But that is way expensive.

what was the mixture ratio of water to WW?

I use watter wetter and have for years, and I havent had sucha build up, my hoses are tanted pink, but just slightly.

Maybe your not following directions.

That's what I wonder in all these horror stories. IIRC Billa said he'd 'topped up' his rig many times. There's maybe a certain maximum amount water can carry before it comes out of solution?...
Or maybe it does need the heat of an engine to hold it in solution over long periods of time?...

not sure on ratio. Didnt really bother with it. I'm going to clean it all out with the next remake of the tubing. I havent had any problems with the plastic clamps. But I'm thinking that I will go with some other kinda next time.

BTW how do you attach a chipset/video block if the holes dont match up, or in my case and ati 8500 which has no holes for mounting at all. Do I use artic alumina and make it permant in hopes that i dont need to take it off or what? I dont really think i'll have to remove it later but you only need to freeze it for a while and be careful correct?

I've had troubles with WW and distilled water too. Rusty/pinkish residue covering everything in my loop. I used about a capful of WW to 1-1.5qt of water. There were no temp improvements that I could detect. I used a solution for cleaning my humidifier to get it out. Circulating a mixture of cleaner and water thru my loop for about 1/2hr does the trick. Also I rinse by circulating clean water thru it all a few times before reassembly. I've come to the conclusion that there is no reason for me to use WW if there is no aluminum in my loop. To control growth in my loop I add a bit of bactrostat that once again is made for my humidifier. If you are interested in these, check any place that sell humidifiers, I use Holmes brand products. The cleaner is acidic so be sure and flush it out of your system.
