Where does all the money come from?

I was curious as to what overclockers tend to do professionaly. My first impression is that there are a lot of engineers around here, but I bet there's some interesting minority professions too.

So, I'll start of by saying that I'm a succesfull web designer by day, and a starving artist by night.

What about you?

In my trade, I'm an IT Business Analyst. I'm trying to get into Project Management.

Computer support in public service.
As I read in a magazine a few years ago about junkies in Soviet: "They pretend to pay us so we pretend to work."

i'm just a student, in the same class of hara, we are having exams in 2 weeks time for maths at Advanced level and computing at advanced level.

the problem is that the subject computing is all bull$hit, no computer studies at all, listen to this, the computer architecture that we did is so simple that not even an 8086 was that simple. it's not advanced level for sure, but remember, we are in malta, which implies we are in a bull$hit country.

but i can say that math is at an advanced level. i find it hard but very interesting and nice :dome:

Engineer, Shock (wave) Physics. I usually just buy things now instead of making them like I did when I was a broke graduate student, even though I have access to a lot more/better equipment, tools and parts. Brings relevance to the statement 'Time is money.' I usually don't have the time to fiddle around and make things anymore like I used to. Wish I could, though.

Computer Support Specialist / Network Administrator here.

(At least that is what I like to call myself :) )

Been fixing/upgrading/building computers for about 6 years now (going on 7) and still have not been given a chance to get my dream job..........$50,000+ salary job sitting back and advising people on what to buy (and then having me build it and play with it :D )

we do not have the same waterblock, but the same avatar because we constructed that block together :)

It's referring to the sentence:

Notice the 4 words, the 3 commas and my personal favourite, incorrect capitalization ;) :D

My real job outside of being a pimp and all.... is the Sr. Network Architect for my lil part of the State Gov.

Its a job with quite a bit of responsibility... which is why I am still at work 10 hours later with no thoughts of going home for atleast another 4 hours as I finish running tests.

This is roughly what I do, but $50K is too little - set your sights a little higher!:D

My job title is "Consultant - Stamping Technical Systems". I actually do support and R&D work in NC Programming, DNC Systems (PC -> Machine tool communications), networks, Operating Systems, and just about anything concerned with PC's and automotive stamping. This means I get to sit at my desk and drink mass quantities of Diet Pepsi and fsck around with lots of computers!

Occasionally, (around deadlines and when systems aren't working) my life can be a living hell. But mostly I figure that my employers are paying me to do stuff I would probably do anyway if I was sitting at home in my underwear - basically, they are payng me to keep my pants on!:p Not that I blame them...

Oh, and I have an MCSE and am finishing up my CIS degree at U of Michigan.

Well I get to do that some of the time, but we aren't big enough to fill all my time doing that, so I'm also a network admin, DBA, everything else as it needs done - they call me a Technical Systems Analyst, but really I do support of the servers - never deal with clients so it's not that bad. The best part is every year when we get a new budget I get to spec all the new servers/upgrades, and then play with them for a week or two before I have to put them into production (building the SAN kicked ass). And, after working here for about 4.5 years now, as of the end of this month I'll be making the $50K a year - but it's $Canadian so thats really only about $50 a year US.

iroc409 04-29-2003 11:02 AM

my goal is to be able to anything i want to do, whenever i want to. i have expensive tastes, so that will take a bit of bankroll.

wish me luck :)
