CD-ROM Question

Just out of curiosity, would you be able to replace the open button on a cd-rom with a 2-way switch that opens and closes it?

Why would you want to do that if you don’t mind me asking? I don’t think it will work using a toggle switch as they (Most CD-Rom drive) are made to work with a push button (Momentarily closed switch).

One thing which you'd need is circuitry to determine if the door is opened or closed.

Just an idea i had, something i had to ask...

You could theoretically do it without any circuit diagrams by using an (on)-off-(on) SPDT switch and wiring both (on)'s together. Then you could label one direction 'open' the other 'close', even though either way would both open and close the drive tray.

BTW: in switch nomenclature anything in ()'s is a momentary connection.

But that way, you could open the door by switching on the close :(
