To RTV or not to RTV?

I have some black roofing silicone (leftover from building my subwoofer box). I contantly am hearing about RTV, is RTV better than this black silicone and why? Should I go out and buy RTV or will this silicone work just fine? I am sealing my res as well as my pump and just because I am a psycho I am also going to seal all connection points.

'RTV' means Room Temperature Vulcanizing. its just silicone sealant that cures @ room temp and comes in several different varieties depending on the task. your stuff should be fine (although clear silicone sealant might be more aesthetically appealing if it will be visible).

Will my black silicone cure at normal room temps too. I plan to let it sit for 2 days just to be safe (a friend recommended 1 day-he knows about it for construction/roofing use not computer apps). What is your recommendation. BTW nice to meet another psycho!

lol, thats a silly question :p you used it to make a subwoofer box right? didnt it dry?? if you're uncertain you can just squeeze a little out onto a piece of paper to see if it drys (which it should in a day or so).

You best bet is to just get some pure clear silicone Its cheap why take the chance ;)

The worst thing about it is that I just now thought about that. I think I am just a little postal because this is going in my computer. Sometimes I wonder about myself:shrug: .
