Small Questions about Water Cooling
 

In this setup:

Eheim 1250
Black Ice Xtreme
Swiftech MCW5000A CPU block

Do I need anything but 100% distilled water? I've heard that with all copper parts(and brass fittings), it doesn't matter.

Do I need to get fittings for the block, or can I just attach the hose directly into the block and be fine?

Should I blow through the radiator? I want to remove the internal bay chassis and put it down at the bottom of a case with sufficient air flow through the front, so should I just use the front 120mm fan to suck the air out, or should I put a 120mm on the inside of the radiator to blow through the radiator and suck air out from the front case fan at the same time?

in addition to distilled water u need to use some sort of anti growth agent. like WaterWetter, Zerex racing fluid, etc.. these are for stopping growth of algae or some sort of life, having all copper just prevents corrosion of mixing copper and aluminum.

and no not all parts of your system are copper. the Swiftech MCW5000A uses a copper base but the top is made out of aluminum which has been anodized. the use of waterwetter or zerex helps prevent the corrosion but its not always a gaurantee.

you should go with 1/2" ID tubing. u need to buy a little adapter for quick connects that allows the 1/2" ID tubing to fit into the 1/2" OD quick connects on the block.

you should mount the radiator in front of you case and suck air through the radiator. but u can also use a push/pull setup if you want to. what that is, is two fans on the radiator. one for sucking air through and one for blowing air through.

I think you can thread normal barbs straight into the block if you take out the pushfit inserts. Don't quote me on that though! :D ...

The swiftech blocks contain large amounts of anodized aluminum. These coatings have been known to come off and wear over time allowing for internal corrosion. I would recommend an anticorrosion chemical as well as a biocide to keep your system clean. Hyperlube is a very nice additive since it will not stain your tubing and prevents corrosion extremely well. Adding some commercial non-chlorine non-bromine hot tub sanitizer in small amounts will also help in preventing algae buildup.

I just ordered me my first water cooling kit. It'll be the 1250 pump, Black Ice Pro, DangerDen res, 1/2" OD + tubing, and a Swiftech block (the new 5000). I saw that it had an aluminum casing, but I figured the coolant plus the anodized paint would be enough to resist corrosion. What is the best wb that is all copper?

I have yet to see any pics or even heard of anybody having problems with the anodized coating on the swiftech blocks :)
