need help to build simple yet effective WB
and i thought you guys where the best to ask ...
i dont have acess to any form of mills or such. maybe i can get my hands on a drillpress if im lucky ... i have a chunk of 8mm plexi 20cm*20cm*8mm and some 1mm thick copper i will trie to get some thicker as soon as i find out where i can get it here in sweden. is there anything even remotely effective i can make with this ? it will be cooling a tbredb 1700 if all things goes right. |
if you have access to a drill press it is enough to make a #rotor style block. Very simpel to make and very very effective.
1mm thick copper is not good to make any kind of block. try to at least find some 5mm or 6mm for a #rotor style block. Remeber to say thankx to rotor |

5 or 6 is too thin for a #rotor blcok. a 10-13mm block is adequate.

i do not know exactly, but remember that you are limited on how deep the pins must be by the dremmel disc. so you have to calculate that from the biggining.

so if i could get my hands on a piece of copper of these dimensions i would be able to build one ?

i think that that would be enough, though i would get an 8mm one :p 3mm for the bp and 5mm channels

I used a 6mm flat bar to make a rotor style block...though I believe a thicker one would have performed better. There is not enough material there for the heat to penetrate efficiently. Thus I get a huge variance in temps. My mbm seems to jump around all over with its temp readings.

You might be interested in making a $hitblock like I did with 6-7mm copper bar. It's simple and effective (I think). You won't be needing a drill press, just a hacksaw. Haven't tested it yet because a CPU "got fried" :(

a #rotor style block shouldn't be that expensive. i think it is the most worthit block that anyone can ever make
