Anyone see this yet?

New Eheim Pump!

Fixittt 05-08-2003 04:48 PM

ahhh that is very nice, it seems that someone is listaning!

hara 05-08-2003 05:07 PM

That's very pleasing to see. What is the head of the 1046 again?

Be great to see the 1048 or the 1250 moded like that :)

DJD 05-09-2003 02:18 AM

And i imagine that you cant work with this pump sub-merged...
Unless they have found a way to insulate it from water..

tippey 05-09-2003 03:07 AM

the pump is actually modifed by innovatek
and here in the uk it cost more than my ehiem1250:eek:

Strafe 05-09-2003 08:19 AM

Why in God's name did they do this with the weakest of Eheim's pumps?? Oh thats right, in Europe they're all stuck on 8mm tubing still

Motivated question. Would be nice to see some larger pumps with this mod.
The phattest flexible tube I was offered when building my rig was 2", bigger than that takes stiff PVC tubing. Think that Skanska can mold me concrete tubing in several-meter class if I ask nicely (pay nicely). Feeling bitchy today.

Thanx god not all... ;)
I am from Greece and here they have only some koolance and innovatek kits..and they cost crazy amounts.. 350euro for Innovaset5/6
I have paid a LOT in customs in order to have some australian/us products..

P.S. Sorry for being off-topic :)

I see one major problem with the pump. You cant have it running with out your pc running. there for if you need to fill your system or start the pump befor you turn the comp on you would need have a seperate power supply, or one of those delay start things that can be set for multipule minutes. Also dosent starting ad stoping your pumps decrease their life.
Just my two cents

Crosstrack16 05-09-2003 01:40 PM

i must say it is a start in the right direction tho...

bigben2k 05-09-2003 01:45 PM

I disagree.

I'd hate to add an inductive load to my PSU. It would only make things unstable.

Cyco-Dude 05-09-2003 03:40 PM

maybe you cant reasonably do this with the more powerful pumps because they would draw too much power? unless you have a separate PSU or something. or really powerful PSU...

and you can run it with the comp off, you just have to ground the (normally) green wire from the ATX power plug to a black one. this will turn the PSU on. the old koolance systems came with such instructions so you could turn the pump on without booting the computer up.

pHaestus 05-09-2003 03:49 PM

I suspect you are correct about the power draw.

Also remember that Innovatek are the wizards behind the "X-flow" waterblock which produces NO pressure drop and contains so much turbulence that the radiator no longer has to work to cool the system. With components that don't cause any head loss then smaller pumps work fine :)

A normal 1046 draws 5 Watts or a bit less than a Panaflo FBA12G12H1A fan.

Unless the DC pump's efficiency is dramatically lower than the AC version, the power draw can't be all that much.

I suspect it's a matter of Innovatek letting Eheim know they could sell the DC 1046's. Eheim may not be convinced there is a big enough market for bigger DC pumps.

Cyco-Dude 05-09-2003 08:43 PM

how many watts do the 1048 or 1250 draw??

i suppose the smaller 1046 would make more sense considering the market over on the other side of that big lake, thus no 1048's or 1250's

...or maybe they would draw to much power and cause a nuclear meltdown in your computer case.

WE NEED MORE POWER KEPTIN!!!!!1111  :p :D

10 Watts for the 1048 and
25 Watts for the 1250

Considering a lot of PSU's only put out 120 Watts or so total on the 12V rail, 25 Watts for a 1250 makes a pretty substantial dent in the power available.

I do think the 1048 would be a good candidate for running at 12V though.

F18Viper 05-09-2003 10:10 PM

I dont uderstand why people should waste precious psu wattage just so they have everything hooked to one line. For me I have no problem with just having a separate ac line for my pump.

Cyco-Dude 05-10-2003 07:26 AM

soooooo the 1250 (or similar) might be doable if you had a separate PSU (maybe like a 1U psu stuffed into a 5" drive bay?) or a high-power PSU?

nevertheless, it is interesting to see a pump company make a pump specifically for watercooling computers :p

mashie 05-10-2003 02:46 PM

Well, I will use one of these to get a 1048 running from 12V. I know 70W is overkill for a 10W pump but it was the smallest one I could find.

I hope you haven't purchased it yet.

Quoting from the manual that you can download here:

Output Waveform Modified Square Wave

An Eheim 1048 is not likely to be happy with a square wave for input power. It'll probably get hot and is likely to be damaged.

Many inverters that work fine for electronic devices won't work so well for AC motors.

Crap, didn't read that part. New plans again...

Hmm I wonder if that 1046 will be able to handle 4 blocks (CPU, GPU, NB and PSU) using 8/6.4mm tube.
