Packing - yes or no?

What experience do you people have with using packing inside the bong? Also, if you do, do you prefer metal or plastic packing?

What kind of packing are you refering to?

are you looking for something to reduce the "water splash" at the bottom of the bong or something to increase the surface area inside the tower?

I was thinking about enlarging evaporating area inside the tower...just like in industry. Since first time I've used my bong, it was filled up with chromium steel mashed wire (the kind for cleaning kitchen dishes) and now I wonder if anyone is using something similar....what are pros and cons.

in my first bong I used something similar (tangled up copper wire), I presume the key is to balance the surface area v the free flow of air, though latley I'm leaning towards slightly lower performing, but totally silent evaporative cooling setups.

I keep my bong in the other room....:)....so I don't actually hear anything.

oh well in that case I'd simply use a normal showerhead arrangement with no packing and a strong fan, you'll probably have to come up with something to stop un-necessairy water loss from small droplets being swept out in the air flow though.
