Brass doesn't react with aluminum!

Hey, don't take my word for it!!! This comes from a guy with over 2,800 posts at www.overclockers.com!!!

http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showth...hreadid=199200

I swore I would never post again there but I had to jump in. Being he is a "senior member" and I am the newb and all, I didn't see it much of an issue to be blunt. :D

Damn that place is so full of people who know jack and don't mind spreading it. Please don't let this place become like that!

I know that Brass is suffers from corrosion less than copper because the zinc forms an oxide layer at the surface, which is very unreactive.

Howerver, I'm not sure of it's effect on galvanic corrosion.

almost any dissimilar metals will react to tap water

Balinju 05-28-2003 07:39 AM

i need to ask a question, maybe 8-ball knows the answer or someone who studied some chemistry, is brass for example or any other alloy a mixture of 2 metals or is it a compoud???

hara 05-28-2003 08:44 AM

Brass is an alloy, not a compound. That is why it lends some properties of zinc and some properties of copper. Brass can also be separated into zinc and copper.

Have you ever seen aluminium barbs available? These would be suitable for Al blocks.

Thanks to people like you who encourage it. Reread the thread over there again this morning. It is amazing to see the ignorance from senior members. BigBen2k now got attacked because one of their more intelegent members somehow mistaken him for me?

Thanks MadDog for continuing your do-gooder wantabe BS over actually giving a usefull comment. Oh yeah you don't understand what that means, forgot.... It is people like you why overclockers has become the joke it is becoming! If we don't make it clear why people are wrong, then they will aways be wrong. Sorry, life's sucks that way.

so you are saying that it is a mixture, hmmm, very interesting

Given the average age over there, I find that you have to stick to one-liners, because they don't have the attention span. I should know, I've got two of them roaming the house! ;)

That pump comment was clearly uneducated: he'd use anything to attack someone.

pHaestus 05-28-2003 10:35 AM

looks like decent links were posted there. Too bad the thread starter had to go out and dig them up rather than having them supplied by anyone on either side of that argument.

Shutting this thread dowen; not interested in an "OCers forum bashing session. Take it to the streets or something :)
