Help with adapting DTek block to hole-less board.

Recently I got a new board that comes without the 4 mounting holes. Due to the size of the Spir@l block, a custom clamp is going to have to be made so it can use the 6 socket lugs.

Spir@l: 3" x 2.5" <--- This causes the problem.
DD Maze3: 3" x 2.125"

However, a good design doesn't seem that obvious. Has anyone seen an adapter/design etc. that can be used in this case?

I'd love to use my Spir@l on my new board, but can't because I can't figure a good way of mounting it. :(

Does it actually cover the tabs on the socket?

If it's the same size as the Spir@ls I have (the ones made my Fixxxitt himself) then it is EXACTLY the same width as the socket. If you don't mind making a new top, you could make it so it is a 3x3 top and then rig something up like #rotor used to do to mount big blocks on the socket clips. I can't recall the exact details but it involved using screws to tighten some wires that then applied pressure on the tabs. Let me look at his site for a bit and reply with more .nfo

OK goto http://3rotor.homelinux.com/ then Stuff/Project A7V

You should be able to make a clip like that if you make a new top that's 3x3.

Here's the one I was thinking of:

Customer's Rigs/Bill_Pogue's Chip Chiller.

That #rotor knows what the hell he's doing :)

Hey pH, thanks for the reply. Not sure if I made myself clear, but the Spir@l block I have is one made by DTek (not Fixxitt). The dimensions of the base AND top are almost 3x3" and overlaps the lugs.

I wouldn't have a problem if the base was the same size width as the socket, but that's not the case. :p

jaydee, that's exactly what's happening. The block is so big that when it's positioned, it covers 3 of the tabs/lugs. A conventional hold-down won't work in my case.

Thanks guys!

The DTek Spiral IS Fixittt's. If it covers the tabs I would say your screwed. You would have to out a sharp bend right at the socket lugs which I don't think would work unless you used somethng thin that will not bend once pressure is applied. Because if it bends it will rise up and hit the bottom of the block and raise it up aswell.

Weird that the DTek version is larger than fixxitt's original. As it is, the ones I have are huge hunks of metal already

Well I shot an email off to DTek and got a response from Dave there:

I am sorry, but we do not have a clip yet for adapting the block without the holes. We do have it in design and we will be on them asap after the Whitewater block is complete.
Incidentally, in the past few hours, I've figured a design that may work for mounting the Spir@l to hole-less mobos. I'm going to draw some pictures out first and hope to get some feedback from you guys.

Thanks for all your help. ;)
