Chiller(s) Q´s

Well im thinking of getting a fridge into my room to have coke in next to my desk :)
BUT also to cool my water.. but im thinking wich would be the best.. putting my existing BI in the Fridge.. to be cooled there WITH fans.. or using some kind of chiller construction without peltiers..

and then for the second question.. if i set the fridge on 8 Degrees Celsius.. will Condensation Occur? and please dont post one of those condensation charts ( if its EASY to understand post it ) because i have a hard time understandning them :P

anyone tried this before? is it effective? because i want a QUIET concsturction.. and it would be awsome to cool your coke as you cool your computer =)

Butcher 10-16-2001 05:11 AM

A few points:

Fridges aren't particularly quiet :P

Running a fridge to cool a computer is highly likely to blow the fridge to bits, they're not designed to run 100% duty cycle (i.e. cooling all the time), chances are you'd burn out the compressor inside a week.

Finally coke is best enjoyed at about 2-3C :)

But hey did you read what i said?
i told you some chiller construction or the Black ice inside the fridge WITH fans.. wich means that the fridge wont cool the WATER only cool the air and the BI as it would be cooled normaly.. and since its fans in there.. it would probably not destroy the fridge.

Edit: The fridge probably is more Quiet than two high CFM fans? atleast my fridge is .. dunno bout yours :D

If you are gonna use a fridge, just get a larger reservoir... put it in the fridge. Put a submersibly pump in it. Insulate the hose lines. You're set. Easy.

dw, here is a little experiment for your brain.

Lets assume your cpu has got a power output of 50W. That power(in form of heat) is transported away by your coolingsystem to your BI where the heat/power is dumped into the air in your room. Now lets assume you put your BI in your frige with a pair of fans. Where will that heat/power go?
A. In your room
B. In your fridge
C. In your brainless head

Think hard about this answer and then read Butchers reply one more time. Which you should have done in the first place instead of beeing angry with the guy for helping you out.

Please note that i don't say that it can't be done. A lot of overclockers have made this type of "cooler". U just have to get a fridge with enough cooling capacity.

FIRST of all.. i was not angry.. wich you proved to be much more of a prick than me. starting to argue about something i never was. i just ASKED if he read it through.. 2nd, fridges DO have cooling capacity to cool HOT food then i mean 100 C celcius.. 24/7 i work as a CHEF and i know they can do it.. so thats just bshit.

anyways.. why did you start the BAD influence on this thread. i was NOT rude to Butcher as you were to me atleast attack him personally.

Come now, children... let's not bicker here...

Kevin, well your right, and thanks for the tip bout insulating the tubing.. but i think im gonna use the pump IN the computer.. think i should let it suck water from the resevoir in the fridge?

Dix Dogfight 10-18-2001 03:01 AM

dw im's sorry. That was a little over the edge. Maybe i should stop writing replys 02:00 in the morning.

Yes I read what you said, pity you didn;t extend me the same courtesy.
If you check I didn't say fridges couldn't cool hot things, I said they can't cool all the time.
If you put food in the fridge it cools to the fridge temperature and therefore isn't an active load on the fridge. Dumping radiator exhaust in the fridge is a constant 50W+ load in there, hence the compressor has to run all the time to cope with the continual heat dump.
Fridges aren't designed for this, you'd be much better off getting a compressor setup designed for 100% duty cycle and setting that up, not only would you get lower temps but you would also be a lot less likely to nuke your compressor.

dw 10-18-2001 01:51 PM

Well true.. but im getting a fridge thats known as a "Sval" in swedish.. and since your swedish youd know what i mean.. they are used in resturants to chill up to 200 C hot food.. and they are able to do it all the time.. but i think a regular fridge would do the trick to.. but i aint drilling holes in my own fridge.. :)

dw 10-18-2001 01:51 PM

dix dogfight, tis ok .. :>

MechCD 10-18-2001 07:51 PM

There is a difference between hot food and a hot chunk of metal.

The radiator will alwys pump about the same amount of heat out (not technically right, but close)

The food isn't a constant source of heat, once it gets cold, it isn't hot anymore :D :D

Now the radiator may never get cold because a fridge isn't designed to cope with constant heat. Its probably made to cool down stuff that is hot or warm, like pop cans etc. pop cans don't produce heat by themselves.

If you get a high enough capacity fridge, itmight work

Butcher 10-19-2001 05:41 AM

Isn't that what I said MechCD? :P

dw 10-19-2001 11:34 AM

But im telling you its a Fridge thats designed for the purpose we use em att work to constantly cool food.. we cool food 24/7 in them, and there is no problem bout that..

Hehehe cant you guys read what im saying.. ok maybe not a normal fridge could do it.. but the one im gonna get makes it...
