Water system flow rates

The newbie is back, again. Just as a general guide what is a good flow rate for an assembled water cooling system with a CPU, GPU, and chipset cooler in it, and a pipe diameter of 3/8? That is, not by pump manufacture guides, but the flow rate from a working system that somebody has built.

3/8" should serve you well up to 1 gpm (60 gph), and 1/2" will work well up to 2 gpm (120 gph).

Heatercores seem to perform best at ~1.5 gpm, so if you can, you should target that, with 1/2" tubing, of course.

Ben just a question for you, when you say 1/2", you mean 1/2" ID or OD?

1/2" ID, yes.

Yes, I am thinking in I.D sizes, so its 1/2" I.D.

I would guess (just guessing from personal experiences) that something around 40 GPH would be about right for a commercial kit with 3/8" tubing.

I was told that even with 3/8" tubing that the newer Swiftech kits are closer to 1.5 GPM. I had forgotten that they now use the Sicce pumps and the quick connects for 1/2" OD tubing. This means that they aren't restricting their tubing nearly as much as a regular 3/8" barb (with 1/4" ID).
