what r the advantages of shortening your tube lengths?

Reduction in loss of head/pressure caused by friction of the tube walls...

Someone posted a chart or some figures of headloss for 1/2 tubing on a Ehiem1250 IIRC and the results were frightening!. A few feet of tube can realy knock your head off! :p ...

True, but it does depend on the tubing diameter, and actual flow rate.

Using 1/2" tubing, you can achieve minimal flow restriction where one looses:
0.09" of head, per foot of tubing @ 0.5 gpm
0.34" of head, per foot of tubing @ 1.0 gpm
0.72" of head, per foot of tubing @ 1.5 gpm
1.23" of head, per foot of tubing @ 2.0 gpm

(Calculated using Hazen-Williams formulae, Darcy's would be more accurate)

well im using a eheim 1250 pump with 1/2 inch tygon tubing. currently im using 10feet of tubing total cuz i decided to try to keep my raidator farther away from my computer since my 120mm fans seem to cause vibration (even with 7volt mod) on my case which was kinda annoying.
