eeeerrrtttt zzzzzzttt... media error! argh.
just reinstalled with win xp pro. running the hpt374 or whatever on the abit at7-max2. both my storage drives (wd 7200 8mb 100 & 120gb) were on the same channel, so i moved them off on the seperate channels of the ata raid channels, sometimes things were a little slow moving around the files and even browsing them.
now i have an issue in WMP and winamp that when playing mp3's they get that stutter... you know what it sounds like i'm sure, and it sucks. it does it quite often, and does it both in wmp and winamp. everything else seems to be running fine. when it does this it seems like the whole machine kinda pauses... like flash stuff open and that sort pauses as well. not really sure what's going on, but it's rather disconcerting. |
ok, this is getting VERY annoying.. the machine just keeps pausing and pausing and pausing... argh! the only thing i changed was seperating the drives out on the raid channels.
i doubt that would do it... the only other thing i can think is that i left the cpu overclocked when i installed windows... can that be the problem? i also had a memory dump not long after i installed windows... been fine since though. but it pauses a LOT. bleh. |

Check the IDE channels in Windows and make sure they are set to DMA mode. If they are stuck in PIO ONly (and you cant get changing them to DMA to stick) then remove the controller drivers completely and redetect them on a reboot.

hmm... ok, the primaries are set to "dma if available"... but the ones on the controller are listed as scsi drives. i did notice it has a checkbox "disable synchronous trasnfer". maybe it's trying to send data both ways, and the hdd's are getting pissed at that? i've always known ide is really bad about multiple i/o.
otherwise i'm not sure, but i'm going to pull the devices from device manager and see what happens. btw.. thanks for the help, maybe i can get this thing to cooperate. you don't think the oc during reinstall would affect it at all? i guess that would make sense, since it _seems_ like it only does this when accessing the drives on the raid controller |

i'm using the abit drivers that came with the board, and i haven't flashed it or anything, so we'll see what happens. |
i think the culprit is FLASH! argh... either that or the combination of flash and netscape. netscape seems to have problems when displaying multiple animated gifs as well. i dunno, maybe it's just netscape... but still, that's aggrivating.
