Combined WB and NB
 

Hey, i was just looking at my mobo and realized that there would be room for a combined cpu wb and nb-wb. Has anyone tried this? There must be -some- advantage of doing that :rolleyes:

It might be worth a try, but the main issue is keeping the block perfectly level on both surfaces, and I would bet that the top of the CPU and the NB aren't level with each other. Also, if the CPU sits a little differently in the socket, then the block still won't be flat: it'll be tilted, making poor contact with the core.

Otherwise, the only advantage I see would be in eliminating that tricky hosing between a CPU and NB block.

this has merit, but keep in mind as mentioned u would have to make the portion contact the nb lower than the portion contacting the cpu.

yeah, when i thought it through i realized that :shrug: but now the idea is out there :)

and while at it.. just think of the additional weight added to your mobo. might not really be worth it...
oh and it would very possibly be a one-off block you can only use with that type of mobo...

Weight probably wouldn't be too much of an issue, depending on the design. I've got a Swiftech MCW5000-PT, and that thing weighs at least a pound dry. I bet the aircooled version weighs even more.
