Glowbottles testing - in the name of science!

Ok guys. I've said from the beginning that GlowBottles is just fine for your cooling system and will not hurt it in any way. Well, Chip at Overclock-Watercool had a statement on his site saying that the stuff killed his pumps in testing. I had said that his pumps die on their own without glowbottle's help. So he sent me some glowbottles, and dared me to test it myself. It arrived yesterday, and after some preliminary testing (I poured some into a soda bottle, added water, shook it up, and let it sit for 12 hours to see if anything settled at the bottom, nothin) I poured it into my reservoir.
So far my temps are unchanged, the glow is at least as good as dyelite (I didn't remove the dye-lite, just poured this stuff into my current mix) and all is good. I have a 1 year old Danner pump that looked good when I took it apart 3 months ago for inspection.
I'll update this thread periodically..
So what do you think, will I eat my words, and buy a bunch of new cooling components, or will we finally be able to buy glowbottles and glow in colors besides blue and green for once? ;)

Heh if the pump dies I'm sure the chip will fry rather quickly with the small surface space of the nano block.

still don't know what the hell a glowbottle is :).

www.glowbottles.com fool. It's just some dye that you add to the water to make it glow under a blacklight. They have like 5 or 6 colors.

Didn't Koolance have problems with Glowbottle in their systems?

UnaClocker 11-25-2001 03:42 AM

No. Koolance never put glowbottles in their water.. hehe..
Anyways, it's been about 24 hours here now since I dumped the stuff in.. No problems, temps are unchanged, no strange noises from my pump.. ;)

ooooh. That's the shit that my bud fills empty hard alcohol bottles w/.

Koolance never puts anything in their water... their design is such that if you merely spit in it or something the resovoir will corrode or crack or something...

Brians256 11-25-2001 06:09 PM

I heard that Koolance posted a warning that people putting Glowbottle stuff into their system was causing problems. Maybe it was just a generic warning that ANYTHING non-standard was a problem. But, I thought it was Glowbottle specifically (at the start).

UnaClocker 11-26-2001 12:31 AM

Well, another day has gone by. Still chuggin along, no signs of a problem yet. Temps are still fabulous, pump is as quiet as ever.
Someone asked me how I know that this stuff glows as bright as dye-lite if I added it to water with dye lite. I know because I got two vials of glow-bottles, I poured one into a 20 ounce bottle of water. It glows just as bright as my tubes. Also, when I poured the glowbottles into my system, it really didn't change how it glows. But hey, I still have that bottle of water in it. I'll fill up a hose and set it next to my blacklight to make sure for the skeptics.
Also, the two bottles I mixed the stuff into. One is orange and one is blue. I shook them up really well when I mixed 'em. and since then they've been sitting almost completely still on my desk. I'm checking to see if any of the pigment settles out of the water (a bad thing). So far nothing has settled to the bottom, it has stayed perfectly mixed.

Hey, anyone interested in getting some glowbottles for free, contact Chip at overclock-watercool.com, he's got 11 vials left, and he said he'll give one free to anyone that wants one till they're all gone. :)

Varsis 11-26-2001 04:45 PM

well guys the reason why it wont kill a danner is cause there are NO SEALS
if you have a pump with SEALS like the rio's etc that dont need to be primed, well it'll hash them up dam well.

UnaClocker 11-26-2001 07:58 PM

I don't know what kind of Rio your using, but every Rio I've ever uses was set up exactly the same as a Danner. Mag drive is mag drive. And as for seals, I'm using the original o-ring in my Danner, I don't have any sealant around the pump housing anymore, haven't since I moved up to 1/2". I'm guessing you mean seals on non-magdrive pumps that go around the impeller shaft where it leaves the motor. Running a pump like that is asking for destruction, even with plain water.

I've passed the magic 3 day mark. The temps are unchanged, the pump isn't grinding to a halt, I have noticed no ill effects.. Onward.. :)

Day 4.. Happy as a clam. :)

Are clams really happy though? :D

UnaClocker 11-29-2001 03:17 PM

Heh.. Only during red tide when I can't come dig them up. But anyways.. ;)
My water level went down about 1/2" sometime during the last 4 days (don't ask me where the water went, beats me) and I have a nasty dark blue ring around the top of my reservoir where the water level used to be. I'll snap a picture of that and post it sometime. So that's a definate negative against glowbottles. I never had that problem with dye-lite.. :)

Komic 12-03-2001 01:56 AM

Anymore updates Una?? Or did your PC fry cos your pump stopped... :D j/k

Just wondering.....

Kevin 12-03-2001 02:47 PM

yeah if that accumulation continues, you could have problems...

UnaClocker 12-03-2001 06:25 PM

Nah, I'm just out of town for a bit.. Took my computer with me, but I'm not really running it much. Temps seem ok still, pump isn't dead. :)

just figured i would give this thread a bump since there is another thread regarding the same topic right now
