mounting a 120 to a BIX
ok .. i have a pc71 .. and im gonna mount the black ice xtreme and a 120mm fan .. but how do i mount it .. how are you guys mounting it ?
anyone ?
Cova made a shroud for it, and used it to secure it to the case.
i used zip ties or sometimes called nylon cable ties.
wait so ur using put fan screws to connect the fan to the rad .. then .. use zip ties to connect the fan to the case .. or just use another set of fan screws ?
Zip ties would be easier, but you could use more fans screws, I guess:shrug: Whatever works, right?

I cut out a mounting plate out of Lexan, Traced the opening of the radiator onto it, cut it out, then traced the cut out section onto the case front, cut that out, then secured the radiator to the plate with fan screws, then secured the plate to the case with small bolts.
I'll take some pics later if you're interested. Mine's a PC-71 also. |
6-32 threaded rod works. You need to ream the holes out slightly in the BIE so it fits. Grind a rounded end on a piece of rod and finess it through the cooling fins to the other side. Cut the rod to length required. As an option, you can run some non locking nuts on the rod to create some standoff for the fan and shroud the open area. Or use an old 120mm fan shell as a shroud. I used nylon nuts to retain it so they wouldn't loosen up.
