Temps. dropped 10(C) with water

After reading posts on this forum I finally built myself a water cooled system. Have had some real good luck so far as my CPU temps. on Athlon 900 @1200 have dropped from 47-50C to 37-40C(full load).

I spent $65 on the system buying all the components myself and building my own copper waterblock.

Heater core- $25(new from 87 Chevette)
Tank(Marine 6x6x4 JB)- $10
Copper from scrapyard - $5
Hoses, fittings - $15
Water pump - $10(Atwood 500gph bilge pump)

Eventually I hope to get an inline pump that does not go in the reservoir/tank.

I am a builder so I had nearly all the tools to do the job. Had to buy an end mill for my drill press, $9.

Will post some pics. when I have the time.

Thanx to all who post here as I got a wealth of valuable information from this forum.

Do you know where i could purchase one of these marine junction boxes?

How well does the end mill work with a drill press? I have an el cheapo drill-press and am interested in making my own milled block with it. Is it hard work with the copper? Will it kill the drill-press???

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Also, what speeds are we looking at for the drill press?

Cheers

I got the Marine junction box at Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse. I live in Connecticut. They also have them at Home Depot.

My drill press is fairly cheap as well, Delta 8" model. The end mill goes through the copper pretty easily, I used 1750 rpm's. Be patient though, do not try to force it. You need to have a small vise to hold the copper in place on the drill press and use lubricant to keep things cool, I used WD-40. It took me about 45 minutes to mill my pattern on the block, which is 1/2 " copper. I then soldered on a 1/4" cap piece and sanded the excess solder off and polished it, then drilled and tapped 1/4" NPT holes for the barbs.

i used a small drill press to make my monster block " 3x2x1 inch with 5/8 fittings",i used ice on the sides of the block to keep it cold and a little cuting oil. it realy don't take much to mill copper. :)
