Adding on-die reader.
I'm thinking of adding an on-die temperature readout to my MSI KT3Ultra2, along with sensors for air/water/block/gpu/harddisk etc. I have a couple of MAX6655 och MAX6659 chips for the job and was thinking of hooking them up to a private SMBus and link them to the main SMBus with a PIC acting as a bridge and also displaying temps on a LCD.
Anyway, the problem is that I'm pretty sure the on-die temperature diode is already used for the temperature protection, and I think I'll need to disconnect that first. I haven't had a close look at the motherboard yet but I was wondering if anyone had done something similar, or maybe had some info (schematics) of how the overtemp protection is implemented on this or other boards. |
This is something I have been wondering about but haven't ever directly dealt with. The easiest thing is to to check the back of the motherboard for traces that connect those pins. If you see them, then cut them :)
But what will this do to the CPU Overtemp Protection? Not certain. |
