Reading XP thermal diode (again)

I want to add a reader for the on-die thermal diode to my MSI KT3Ultra2 as the normal sensor is beyond useless (it goes down 7C when I point a fan at the socket, and only goes up about 2C if the water temp goes up 10C).

I've had a look at the back of the socket, hoping to find some visible traces going to the THDA and THDC pins but unfortunately I didn't see any. Using a multimeter I came to the conclusion that THDC was connected to ground, and I'm assuming that THDA is connected *somewhere* where it is used for overtemp protection.

I'm pretty sure I have to disconnect whatever circuitry is connected to THDA before I can measure the temperature, but do I also have to disconnect THDC from ground? I think that might be pretty damn difficult because it's most likely connected straight to an internal ground plane...
