Why do ppl here talk so bad about toms?

I mean, i have already spoken bad about him here, but more on a joking way. Does he makes that crappy reviews?

I kind of like them, he explains a bit the pros and cons of all the boards, somewhat detailed, but since everione heres keeps hammering him, i must ask: are his reviews bad?

If so, where should i go to see 'real reviews' ?

Go read the review!

Then draw your own conclusion.
Does it look at the features that YOU are interested in?
Does it come up with the same conclusion that you did?

If neither of those two are to your satisfaction then just don't give the review much weight.

My personal problems with the review.

No information about overclocking, stability, ease of installation.

Review was written for 'Joe Six Pack', not an informed overclocker.

Is it a bad review? ???

I don't give it much weight.

My beef with Tom's is that the reviews and technical articals are all absolute shite. There is no way around it ... I have never seen an honest article on that site that didn't have some sort of agenda to push, and that's assuming they have the concepts they're reviewing correct in the first place.

I occasionally read Tom's, for the concentration of data, about various products. Otherwise, I usually ignore the author comments, because I usually find them to be biased and/or uninformed.

I always look for the toppest stable motherboard. In that category, i go for the fastest one.

In toms i normally see he says that he did not have any stability issue etc etc.
However, i would indeed like to see the stability of the MB when OC.

Anyway, i normally assume that, nowadays, the top performer boards are all the same speed +-, so we should look for features. Right?

Althout i do agree it does not look at some features that i find usefull.

As an example, on the last 875P board roundup, i havent seen specified if any of the board was using the 'So-Called' gigabyte network that connects directly to the northbrige. I think.:shrug:

I too am struggling to understand why procooing doesn't like tomshardware. Will someone please show me how their reviews are bad?

I understand that overclocking is not one of their big review topics, but does that make the rest of the info bad?

Yes, they did mention which boards that gigabit network feature, but they probably refered to it as CSA which may or may not have confused you.

I just read toms so I can see which board is the fastest, and to look at all the pictures.

I'm with the Mob on this one. Most of the articles are biased , misleading and/or lack information required to understand results . Not to mention some "weird looking numbers".

I remember a couple of years ago when the P4 came out , it went from a total goofup from Intel to the best thing since sliced bread , all in one week.

We usually call it Tom's World Of the Fantastic on this side of the Atlantic. But my favourite if from a friend of mine who called it "The Way of the Exploding Tom" (obscure reference).

However, rarely (very) , there are a few resonable articles, mainly in the wireless department.

At least they're not as blunt as Rodney. Can you say "kick ass product" ? It's what you get when you live on sponsors.

As far as reading goes, even in sites i respect, i try to keep a objective view. I usually read Anandtech, 2cpu , Aces hardware, dans data , and also some others like xbitlabs , u Inquirer.

I use Tom's as a source for what's new. They are also a source for high quality pictures.

Tom site has always been a place for a good read ..Pluss you have to take any reveiws no mater where it came from with a grain of salt ....

Ever since the p4 thing.... i can't read them without twitching.

Plus it's not a grain of salt you need to read their shit... you need enough to send you into cardiac arrest.

The only part of the review I paid much attention to were the pictures and the table at the end. The fact he said AOpen was a winner because it finished number 1 in the benchmarks was a crock since it was 25Mhz over spec. It may not be much but it didn't win by much anyway. If he wanted to he could of underclocked the board to 2205(like the rest) and ran the test like that.
