Cheapest pump in existance?

Performance is unimportant. How cheap do pumps get?

frobnitz 08-05-2003 07:06 PM

Hard to beat the danner mag 2 at $29.99 at petsmart... Great pump too. You can get down to maybe 15 dollars for a pump, but I'm not sure the flow would be adequate for watercooling though.

Thanks,
Frob

A maxi-jet 1200 goes for $21.00 online, more than enough for most systems

I got a $15 no name submersible that works great. Been running 24/7 for months now on one of my Distributed Folding crunchers. Use a good high flow block and your golden. Also the VIA 1300's are decent pumps at 370GPH and can be had for $18.00. Then you got the Rios that are ok and dirt cheap.

I got that pump to. Wouldn't use it for anything important for more than a few hours at a time though. I was going to use it to water cool the motor on my CNC Mill. They also have a 750GPH one for $17. They are not rated for constant use though like the pond pumps we use are.

These same pumps are used for aerating live bait boxes for days and weeks on end in saltwater. If they weren't rated for constant use and were unreliable, you would see a lot of fishermen storming Walmart and all the other places that sell them because live bait ain't cheap.

And Redleader said performance wasn't important, so what can he expect for cheap?

No they are not. They are used to pump excess water out of the boat when needed and sometimes to dump and replace the water in the live wells. They use aerators for the live wells and bait wells 24/7 or on more tech advanced systems they shut on and off by oxygen sensors (they sell them in the same section at Wal Mart BTW). And they also DO NOT use these cheap ass pumps for commercial boats in the ocean. These are for small boats like bass boats that are not out for days on end. Two totally different pumps anyway.

But non the less, he did say performance is not important.

other than the part about "cheap ass", jaydee is correct. My uncle owns a 27.5 foot proline and uses the 1250 model from walmart in it. These pumps are quite high quality and will last for ages when used correctly(pumping out the boat and only running a few minutes at a time). The live well and bait well use different pumps however. I do not know the brand or model, but the pressure from each is immense. What i really need to do is go buy another one of the 500 gph models, and see how long it will last with some sort of backpressure in the loop with it. Im not saying tons of fisherman dont use bilge pumps on livewells either, my uncle added another live well recently and what did he use to circulate it, the 500 gph model.

Thanks Jaydee. This is just something I want to play with, so performance isn't really important.

Have you ever ordered from that link? They're prices are ridiculously low for small pumps.
