help with new res
after some searching around local shops i found an acrylic container i could make a good res from.
the screw top is from a small bottle i had and the side barb is a y connected cut in half. Both are glued with pvc pipe weld so it should be ok with the constant water contact. my only problem is how to connect it to the ehiem 1048 pump. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/lee_smith/res1.jpg http://homepage.ntlworld.com/lee_smith/res2.jpg options so far. 1 glue it (might want to upgrade the pump so i am not to sure about this option) 2. silicon sealant with something holding them together like a big tie rap. does anyone have any ideas ? |
epoxy putty perhaps?
or maybe tap the hole in the res and die the pump so they will thread togathar. |
Best solution would be to tap the hole you drilled and then use a threaded coupling to connect. May not work though without a bit of advance thought (in what size hole to drill). Barring that, look for a PVC or copper straight pipe to thread adapter that will go into your hole on the pipe side and will thread into the Eheim (3/8" thread) on the other side. With PVC it should be easy to find a glue that will make a permanent watertight bond.
I MUST know where you got that container. I need about 3 of them stat! |
Don't use JB Weld type epoxy; it will end up cracking and leaking. Go with Plumbers Goop or some other silicone sealant that will remain somewhat malleable. The Goop is clear as well so might even look a little nicer.

i got them from a shop called muji.
the are like a japanese version of ikea but have loads of acrylic stuff. http://www.mujionline.com/shop_uk/pr...ge.asp?PID=163 dont think they have shops in the us from the web site. (edit you can order online from the us) customerserviceUSA@mujionline.com can you get spares for the ehiem pumps ? i could get either a spare barb (just remebers as he is typing that i can get the barbs) or the front part that the barb fits into and then glue that in place. |

the pvc pipe glue is designed for use in water. |
i used the silicon and tie rap for now and after leaving it over night it's sealed up nice.
Only problem i can see is the angle of the incoming barb is directing the water down towards the pump and the bubbles in the water are not going away. |
