Anyone with experience with Hydor L40?

I can get hold of one locally for $52... how does it perform and how loud is it?

Thanks!

Or maybe someone can understand this and tell me the comments made on it...

What is it?

A bigger version of the L30...

JCYC5 08-18-2003 08:28 AM

According to this: http://www.hydor.com/inglese/s_seltz_l.htm

max. flowrate: 740ghp
max height: 90inches

I personally don't get why you would want it. The L30 is comparable to the Eheim 1250 already.

JCYC5 08-18-2003 09:17 AM

but if it's a $10 increase... why not?

I don't know if there is such thing as too much flow.. but I do know that more heat in the loop will not be a good thing, along with the added pressure that if you have a leak.... its EVERYWHERE really fast!

Its pretty much just 3X the pump you need for a cpu only cooler. HOWEVER... if your pump is outside your case and on the floor, the extra bit could help.

Im sure if they made a L90 we could justify it somehow.... :D

The L30 operates at 27 watts and 75" max head.

The L40 operates at 55 watts and 90" max head.

So you are paying more for a pump that offers 15" more head rate while doubling the heat input to the water. And then there is the matter of heat added as the impellor slips past water it can't more at the rate it's try'n to. The higher free flow means nothing, it's a fantasy as to improving cooling.

All in all even if they were priced the same I'd rather have the L30.

Yes.. exactly. What he just said. ;)

the L35 looks interesting..... more L/H and less wattage D:

JCYC5 08-21-2003 08:11 AM

But I can't find the 35 anywhere...
