New h2o setup questions.
Hello again,
I am almost ready to finish my current project. Here are a list of parts. CAPS indicates STATUS. Case: IN THE WORKS Water To Air Heat Exchanger: Fedco 2-354 (12.125" X 7.875" X 2" fin volume) - PURCHASED IC to Water Heat exchangers CPU: WW Cascade - WAITING LIST GPU: Unsure as of now (Hopefully a Hydra) NB: Danger Den Z-Chip Block - WAITING Pump(s): Iwaki MD15RT Japanese motor version - PURCHASED Possibly: Eheim 1048 (Please read on) Reservoir: Cube res with 4 X 1/2" NPT tapped holes. - IN THE WORKS Tubing: 5/8" and 1/2" ID, not sure of type for flexibility, and clarity w/ respect to UV. - IDEAS/SUGGESTIONS? I want you to evaluate the following scenarios and give me the answers to the following questions: 1) Which scenario should give lowest CPU temps? 2) Which scenario should give the lowest GPU/NB temps? 3) Does any scenario represent the best of both worlds? Scenario 1 Reservoir>>5/8" Hose>>Iwaki-Pump>>5/8" Hose>>Heatercore>>1/2" Hose>>CPU>>1/2" Hose>>GPU>>1/2" Hose>>NB>>1/2" Hose>>Reservoir Scenario 2 Reservoir>>5/8" Hose>>Iwaki-Pump>>5/8" Hose>>Heatercore>>1/2" Hose>>CPU>>1/2" Hose>>Y Connector-Split flow into a & b a: >>1/2" Hose>>GPU>>1/2" Hose>>Reservoir b: >>1/2" Hose>>NB>>1/2" Hose>>Reservoir Scenario 3 Reservoir>>5/8" Hose>>Iwaki-Pump>>5/8" Hose>>Heatercore>>1/2" Hose>>Y Connector-Split flow into a & b a: >>1/2" Hose>>CPU>>1/2" Hose>>Reservoir b: >>1/2" Hose>>GPU>>1/2" Hose>>NB>>1/2" Hose>>Reservoir Scenario 4 Two Seprate loops, with two pumps. The second loop has no Heatercore of its own. Loop1: Reservoir>>5/8" Hose>>Iwaki-Pump>>5/8" Hose>>Heatercore>>1/2" Hose>>CPU>>1/2" Hose>>Reservoir Loop2: Reservoir>>1/2" Hose>>Eheim-Pump>>1/2" Hose>>GPU>>1/2" Hose>>NB>>1/2" Hose>>Reservoir Scenario 5 Two pumps Flow split from Reservoir into a & b a: Reservoir>>5/8" Hose>>Iwaki-Pump>>1/2" Hose>>CPU>>1/2" Hose>>Y adapter to single flow b: Reservior>>1/2" Hose>>Eheim-Pump>>1/2" Hose>>GPU>>1/2" Hose>>NB>>1/2" Hose>>Y adapter to single flow from a & b to single flow: Y adapter>>5/8" Hose>>Heatercore>>5/8" Hose>>Reservoir Thanks for your time and thoughts. I think you're making it more complicated than it is, IMO. If you're going to run two pumps, put them in series, and run all the blocks in series: the order is irrelevant.
You ought to be concerned about how each component is going to be placed so that you can drain it easily. I'm going through the same exercise right now, and because of my layout, I'm having difficulties making sure that I can drain at least most of the coolant out. |
And if I run one pump? any other ideas/opinions?
Personally I wanted to go with scenario #3. BrianW |
If you've got an Iwaki MD15 already, you don't really need anything else (of course it didn't stop me from getting a second Johnson pump ;) ). All blocks in series. The order is irrelevant, unless you want that extra ~0.1 deg C.
I vote for #1. |
Two pumps in series, and only if you have to, otherwise go with one powerful and reliable pump. Regardless, never put them in parallel. A decent iwaki should be able to go a long time without failure ... just run it by itself unless you think it'll be woefully underpowered (which I doubt).

Thanks for the advice. I will go in series.
