Water thickeners
What kinds of water/food thickeners are there?
I am planning a mod that includes a small tank of water. Plain water is too free flowing though. I want it to be 2-3 times as thick as normal water, and to be murky, but not colored. Also, would most pumps be able to stand the pressure at 2-10 GPM? |
I don't know about the longevity, but look at xanthum gum. I use it for thickening in bar syrups and ice cream ... others use it in soups.
Also, you may be able to use glycerin. Both are organic, so yrmv. |
Can you post pics of either of the two in water? (I want to see what it looks like)

You can get xantham gum at your supermarket for $5 for a bag of it with the health food stuff, and you can get glycerin at your crafts store with cake decorating stuff. If I waste the little glycerin I have left my wife will kill me (she wants Sloe Screw against the Wall ice cream tonight, so ... [mind out of the gutter: Sloe Gin, SoCo, Vodka, orange flavoring, strawberries, all in ice cream form, hehe]), and I got the last bag of Xantham in the area so I'm a bit leery of using it. It gives you the consistancy of the syrup that baristas use in coffee, if that helps.
