White Water on a 9800?
I happen to have an extra white water on hand (albeit missing one o-ring, but that shouldn't be too hard to find) and was wondering if there's any way to mount this on a 9800, since it should provide better cooling than the average maze4 gpu block right? Thanks!

I did think about this too, but i was expecting Cathar to release his own version for GPUs :)

Well he had 2 prototypes of the Hydra made, but they were quite different from the WW and now the idea's being re-developed with cascade tech.

Hmmm. Tricky one. I can't seem to think of a way around the positioning of the mounting holes. For the GF4's there wouldn't be a problem as the holes are far enough apart.
You could try cutting off the 4 corners of the block (where the current Socket A holes are) and mount the block on a 45 degree angle. This would then allow you to tap some M3 holes into the base of the block and have the holes fall outside of the O-ring channel in the base-plate of the block so you won't cause a leak. That's about the only thing I can think of. If you ever wanted to re-use the block on a CPU again, just get a plate made up (like I had for the P4 adaptors) with holes in it for the mounting holes and bolt it onto the top of the block. |
Thanks for stopping by cathar :D
I actually do have a gf4 4200 but since that's a little underpowered now, it's not really worth it to me to try putting it on that one. I'm guessing that cutting the block down to size could be done with a regular hacksaw, but that wouldn't really be neccesary if I could get the fittings right yes? I never really understood how one "taps" threads for a screw into a block, any tutorials out there? |
WW on a Radeon sounds like fun!!!

i wouldnt do it.
it would in my oppinion be a "little" too heavy plus not look as attractive |
hehe - i was thinking of doing this, but to my Northbridge and with one of those Silverprop EVO blocks... only problem is length (might clash with my Cascade on the cpu)
and i might upgrade to a hydra from my MCW50 when it comes out :D |
What kind of pump do you have Jewfro?
Two White Waters will drop your flowrate a fair bit. |
Augh I forgot about the flowrate >_<
I have a 1250, currently running: Pump -> Heatercore (Dtek pro) -> DTWW -> parallel nb and gpu -> y connector -> res -> pump.......but the case is getting a lil crowded so I might change that. |
