Diferences between this two 3COM NICs
 

First, i must say i do not understand much about network, only the basics, but im trying to improve that.

I got 2 3COM NICs:

-3C905CX-TX-M
-3C905B-TX


After searching at 3COM's website, i found details about the first one, but not the second.

What i ask is, if possible, could you tell me wich one is better?
The chip on the second one is much bigger than the other, but i thought: "Maybe thats just because it has more features, not because its faster"

So, if it is only a matter of features, could you link me to a datasheet or something to the second NIC?

Thi second one looks more advanced and has a bigger, much bigger chip in it.

But on 3COM's site i see this line about the first one:
"Standards-compliant, traffic-control features improve network and system response"

For the most part, a nic is a nic. Some are faster, some leech more in processor load, and some have added features like wake on lan and such. Unless you are a control freak, most any retail nic will function the same.

The only other consideration is if you are running linux you will need to make sure there are compatible drivers available.

If you are planning on diving into the nitpick details, then much of that is beyond the scope of these forums to discuss and are better served by buying a bookcase full of networking books. About the only thing I would worry about is wake on lan (if you let your system sleep), and only then if you let that happen (go fold or something, dangnabbit).

As for which to get, there are benchmarks floating around on various models if speed is your issue.

Airsprit is right, from your point of view they are the same card. Unless you are going to be doing remote monitoring.
