Piranha 500, What do you think about this pump??

what do you think about this pump, im planing on using it in a system with 3 blocks, so i need hi pressure and hi flow.

attached the datasheet below.

no comments at all ??? :(

Looks to be submersible only from the drawings. Says continuous duty so that is good. No MTBF number (that's bad). Max head isn't nearly as good as the Swiftech MCP600 (10 feet vs. 7). Seems fairly comparable to the Eheim 1250 or Hydor L30 in terms of pressure Is it cheap or something?

20 dollars

MCP600 isnt available here.

PS: whats MTBF??

7 feet of head for $20!!!!?

kinda makes it hard for people to justify pumps these days. They seem like such a ripoff. And frankly, I don't understand why people pay more for blocks that require $80-$100 pumps to run!

Mean Time Before Failure. See the Johnson pump thread for the last great $20 pump (and rash of failures a month or so after purchases). No free rides; you get what you pay for. There are tolerable inexpensive pumps out there though. I like the Danners and the Hydors well enough.

question:

The hydor is $50 (for the l30) was this the inexpensive one?

If you have 1 block, you really don't need the head. What is the cheapest pump that can perform relatively well for under $30? The reason I ask this is, there has to be away to get a pump that will "work", but won't break the bank. I think im gonna do some searching. Any comments on solid, but low price pumps are welcome...

i will be using this pump to push water through 3 rotor blocks.

1 cpu, and then split it into 2 gpu/nb blocks in parallel.

You'll spend more money just repeatedly trying POS pumps than you would if you just bought a decent one to start with. If the L30 seems a bit pricey at $50 then get the L20 at $35. Hagen makes some relatively inexpensive pumps that are around $40 for performance similar to Eheim 1250. Rios are garbage. Could try the Via Aqua; never used one. I think #rotor likes Beckett pumps (again never used).

Think about it. The consequences of a $50-100 salt water aquarium pump dying are much larger than if a $20 bilge pump dies. So where do you think they cut corners to offer it for $20. It's not in pressure or flow; that leaves MTBF. And since it isn't a big deal if one dies then that is a reasonable tradeoff for mfgr.
