Hi All,

I guess this will be already been dealt with, but I could not find the links (exept one article)

Chillers...... HIT ME! what can be done, what is already done.
What are the results?

According the the article, the results where bad..

My issue is: During winter, my temps will be nice, but in the summer, the temp in my room can be 35c. that's quite a lot, so my cpu temps will rise also. Not good for a stable OC. So I want to cool my coolant :)

A tec under my CPU is not an option, as I don't want to chill 24/7
Only whan my system gets to hot (during extreme OC or summer period). I dont want to swap out my tec when i'm done... (tec's uses a lot of power)

Any idea's?

Is phase change out of the question? That is much more power efficient when compared to TECs.

not out of the question, but well, it will add an other 500 dollars to the bill :(

Besides, I don't want to run it allways, only when the extra is needed.

Already invested a lot in my WC setup :)

I going to build a case on top of my system, containing 4x heatercore (2 split, and the water goes to 2 rad's each)
just a line-up of rad's, with total of 4*12cm fans.
on the side I will place the res and an MCP 600 pump.
I have some place left, so maybe a chiller ;-)

I will build the whole thing in Tempex, to have maximum noice isolation. Fans will run at 7v.

Different types of chillers. I would suggest a compressor unit as opposed to a TEC chiller. In-line chillers (aquarium or similar style) like I use. Immersion (evaperator submerged in coolant). Box chillers (refer or freezer with coolant res inside).

They all work, depends on how cold you want. If only using it to supplement a rad pick whatever you can get cheaper.

A warning tho.... once you go chilled you never go back, always chilling a bit more!

In-line chillers are expensive!!!
cheaper alternatives?

Dig a big hole and shove your res into it ala Bladerunenr.

a decent in-line can be had used for $100

Bladerunner's bomb tank is great, IF you live in a area with a high water table and you get permission to dig a huge hole

I have been using a 50' copper coil submerged in the basement floor sump (water stays 58-62F year round) as a "pre-cooler" for my chiller. Works well for about 3 hours before it arms up enough to turn on the chiller. Also takes a high pressure pump.

I was thinking of something small..........

Not a big hole in the basement! Hell, I could use a 3000 litre tank, before my water get's hot..... ;-)

To bad that the chiller from swiftec is 330 dollars.
To bad that sandwch a pelt with 2 waterblocks won't work.

I'll guess I just have to live with running my system at standard clock speeds during the summer. If we are lucky we have 25 days with temps above 30 degrees. If we are not so lucky, it stays the whole summer below the 27 degrees...

you could buy an old freezer, rip it apart and put the evaporator in a reservoir to cool the water. Seen it on the web a few times didn't save the links though. I think I just googled water chiller

Kind of funny, I just finished my phase-change cooled water system. Still testing on it but have to say it initially exceeded my expectations.

Took a 9000 BTU window air conditioner (was discarded due to bad electrical), ripped it apart and mounted the evap in a hand built fish tank, lookin' res. The condensor and replacement fan are mounted outside with freon lines coming in through a 1 inch hole in the wall (easy to repair if I ever move). Res holds about 8-10 gal (estimate) and cools down to -10 C in about 15 minutes. I used a cheap aquarium pump and the una block, keeps my chip usually below 20 C when folding and a solid overclock.

The best part is I only have to run the AC every 7 hours or so for about 20 minutes, hardly any electricity and my room doesnt heat up. If you can find a HVAC tech in your area to give you a hand, I'd give it a shot.
