550 enarmax
I was thinking of trying peltier cooling for some time, I was wondering whats the max wattage peltier that I could use with a 550watt enermax, and run my system. A 9700pro 120 hard drive and a barton,is it possible to run a 226watt and my system. My power supply produces 24amp on the 12volt+ line,46amp 5volt+ and 40amp 3.3+,peak 650watts, thanks.

24A on the 12v is not sufficient, i would think...
I'd also like to know this, I have an enermax w/ 33A on the 12v, and I think the pelt im interseted in requires @ 20A on the 12v rail... So would there be enough for my system? Should i just build it outside the case ad leave my heatsink on the comp, and run it? My system is pretty much like his too. thanks |
My Enermax 12v @ 33A works for 2 pelts

I also read your posts about neoprene sizes, and I ordered the same blocks you did... So did it come with neoprene? Or did you buy it seperate?

I have levicom x-alien 500, it says that it has 34A, I have a p4... how much does my system drain, do I need aditional psu for 1 176w or 226w pelt?

My 220W pelt draws 22A at 12V... so the 24A @ 12V enermax isn't going to cut it.

"whats the max wattage peltier that I could use with a 550watt enermax, and run my system" - I believe the Enermax PSU you refer to has 33-amps @ 12-volts in which case you could certainly run a 26-amp peltier from it.
Enermax also produce a more powerful unit with 38-amps @ 12volts. There is another option.. Take an ATX PSU and use it to power the TEC separately from the computer. You will need an inexpensive ATX starter in order to do this (email me if you want to find out more info). We currently use a separate ATX to power our peltier and the ATX starter sends a start/stop signal to ensure the TEC runs only when the computer is switched-on! |
Redphoenix, dude, that may run nice in the kitchen sink, but will it still run hooked to a PC, with multiple HDDs, CD-Roms and the whole shebang, and hold the CPUs stable?
