nForce 2 mobo for W/C
 

Hi!

i have no idea if i should post this here or not, but it seems relevant.

I'm looking to buy a Nforce 2 Ultra 400 motherboard, but i need it to have the standard cpu socket and northbridge holes for waterblock hold downs. does anyone have one or know of one they can reccomend?

Epox 8rda+ has great clerance around the socket, and mounting holes around the north and south bridge.

also has the report display that you can use to show the temp of the CPU using MBM5 :)

The Asus a7n8x also delivers "all that". So does the Abit NF7.
Either mobos (epox abit or asus) are good mobos. Most usually tend for the Abit because it's more "overclockable" , and has a better bundle than the epox. The asus has a full bundle in the deluxe model.

for overclocking the DFI Infinity is probably the best clocker, followed closely by the abit. these two are quite a bit ahead of the likes of asus and epox who are more of a "well i really just wanna run at stock tbh" type of board.

Have never heard of the DFI Infinity boards for AMD so I can't comment on it.

The Asus boards are good, but lack a wide range of voltage options.

The Epox and Abit boards are on par in terms of voltage and FSB selection for overclocking, but the Abit NF7 boards have better voltage regulation circuitry, and that's my opinion after owning a number of each of the Epox and Abit boards.

Given the number of NF2 boards that I've gone through, my recommendation goes with the Abit NF7/NF7-S.

The infinity is the favourite at the moment from the guys over at the xtreme forums - i think someone has managed 260fsb..... 3.3v in available in bios for the memory D:

thanks guys, after a little more looking around, i have decided on the DFI nForce2 Ultra 400 Lanparty board, i have read a few reviews and i was torn between the Epox and Abit as well for a while, but the DFI is definatly my fave. :)

Go check around the corner at amdforums (DFI). They are shaping up w/ very interesting players / toys.
I have the infinity nfII (non-flashy version of the lan-party revB, most of the functions at 66% of the price and w/o all the stuff I don't need)

Initial testing for the infinity 2 (got it from the support guy for DFI! helping him pay his rent:D ) was 10 x 235+ (AIR only). 4 sata ports, can boot from USB, and other nice touches.
/edit - forgot to mention the approx 10 memory variables you can tweak!!! edit/

Not perfect as some of the mem circuitry gets up to 60c+ (going to use some copper bar between MB and AL tray to try to knock that down some). Interestingly the CPU mosfets weren't getting that warm, just memory.

Have to do to fancy footwork for mounting WC (has holes in latest revs but components right up to the edge of the holes, getting around this by putting mounting points in MB tray below board.

LOTS of various support people (DFI + buffalo + OCZ) wandering through frequently. Beats the heck out of ABIT so far (I hope this all holds up as this will probably be one of the main parts of mikeeputer 3.0) They seem to have dissociated mem and cpu interactions as I can get 2400+ mhz at 1.8 volts (full memtest suite only sorry :shrug: ) where I needed 1.9 to even boot on the nf7-s. The 260 FSB was from a bios by their engineer (who got knocked once at xtreme and seems to be hiding ever since, oh well). But he still is creating stuff and there is alot of potential.

I'd watch em for a while (esp at AMD, also just noticed some stuff happening at ocworkbench also) and wait until I get mikeeputer 3.0 up and running a little to see if these wonderful hopes live on or are dashed.....

Got to build a case now to fit the cooling system in

Just so you know, the Infinity was designed by DFI's new employee, who is an ex ABIT employee, I think he designed the BH6? Don't remember the name off the top of my head.
