Overkill at 950GP/H, Danner Mag 9.5?
So... higher flow rate = better preformance, as a general rule?
I've heard a lot about Danner's adding the most heat to the water, more-so than any other pump. And the reviews I read only tested the Mag 3, the 9.5 is a pretty big step up from that. It also uses a different housing than the Mag 3 - 7, so I'm guessing some of the leaking issues wouldn't be as bad.. or they could be worse. Using a Black Ice Xtreme 2 radiator (rated at 6270 BTU/H) and 2 105 CFM 120mm's. Would the benefit of having a high flowrate pump be outweighed by the heat it might add? RES > PUMP > CPU > GPU > RAD > RES pricing.. for anyone curious $30 > $64 > $56 > $52 > $104 > $30 |
Radiator performance is best at a certain flow rate, no more, no less. With the waterblock, performance increases with more flow, but not by a lot. Thus, with that pump, the water will be travelling through the radiator too rapidly, and radiator performance will go down, AND you'll have more heat in the system.

The biggest problem is just... OVERKILL there is a certain amount which is optimal for heat transfer, if you go over it might go .005C hotter, but it won't decrease performance as far as we would notice.

You'll hit a point (probably around the Mag3) where any additional cooling from flow rate increases will be more than offset by the increased heat of the pump. Let me say that plainly: CPU temperatures will rise due to the input of pump heat to the system.

I'd still like a high flowrate pump... maybe the Mag 5? Would 500GP/H still be too much for a White Water, Z Chip Block, Single Bayres, Maze 4, and the 27cm radiator?

TerraMex: Look at that graph closely. The lines goes slowly downwards after the point of best performance, and that graph doesn't cover the extreme flow rate he'd be getting. Mag 5 has less flow at the 6 or 8 foot level than the Mag 3, and a lot more heat put out on top of that.
