UNDER?!-Cpu Cooling 0.o (p4)
 

alright i have this Pentium 4 that i am desperately trying to get working.. still waiting for a part and with my boredom i have done this with a small IC heatsink i found in a linksys router that was trashed...
so i get my hack saw out and go at it with no real purpose...
and heres what i got with a quick sanding/lapping (cant see it)

thats all well and good but what about things on the mother board....

Blue boxes are 1/8" red are 1/16" or so and the ziff socket is about 3/16" tall. also a bunch of small transistors and stuff.

Ideas on how to make the small heat sink fit?
the CPU in the ziff socket is about 1/16" higher then normal, so it cant work.

Now, what effect will this have on my Cpu's temp!? tests to come in a few days

not very much.. if you have a heatsink *under* the cpu... how are you going to get cold air in there to move the hot air away? imho your wasting your time, but its a nice thought anyway. maybe you should put your eforts into making a waterblock that fits in there, against the mobo and cpu hotspots, i reckon it would be easier trying to find a way to get a small pipe under the zif that getting air in there.

What about if you just filled gap up so the heat could transfer across the gap to the mobo easyer and then the mobo would act like a hsink. You would be surprised how much heat the mobo could dissipate. (feel the back of you nb chip its hot isnt it:) )

What about if you stopped pondering over nonsense and installed a peltier cooling system? Your CPU temp would be zero celsius or below and that chillyness would extend to the CPU socket as well!

Feathers, you talking air cooled peltier or watercooled?

fill thermal grease inside CPU socket wont do jack.
