end of the line: crappy processor or reasonable results?
 

it seems i've come dead on with the last bit of overclocking i can squeeze out of my 2400. i've hit 2380 with 14x170. it seems i can get it in the 2400's if i go back to a 133fsb, and i may give that a whirl again, for fun.

anyways, the thing that concerns me the most is it takes 1.85v to hit this mark, which seems to be getting a bit high. however, i *think* with maybe around 2v and wc, i could get it over 2500 (i've got it to boot into 2500 a few times, but very unstable).

i can get it to post pretty well at 14x175, but it won't boot into windows for the life of it, at all. i'd probably have to crank up the juice quite a bit to get it to run stable any faster, and that's kindof got me edgy. i can't run up the volts much more from cooling, either, too much more juice and it will probably fry. the fsb doesn't seem to want to move on this setup tho at all, it's very picky, and i was rather surprised i got it to run at 170. possibly a nb cooling issue, methinks.

anyways, is that fairly on par for an overclock for an aircooled 2400, or is this thing just teh suck? i don't remember what the stepping is, and i'm not really all that interested in pulling apart the system today to find out :)

thats pretty damn sweet for air cooling. i remember (back in the day...) the most i could get out of my 650 duron was about 1.1-something before it would just slam dunk my ass to a BSOD. and that was with a dual 80mm fans through a ducted copper skivved block (that cost about £60 at the time, second hand!) with the latest and greatest thermal paste available to me then... white goo!

my old (well, i say old, i had it for about 2 weeks a few months ago) 2400 hit 2380 with 14X170 too, but it wasnt very stable, even with a TT Volcano 12.

so think yourself a bit luckier than some :p

well, that makes me feel a bit better, it's just quite frustrating, because the system seems to want to roll at 2500+, but i just can't get it stable :(.

i was thinking about switching to a thermalright heatpipe sink, but screw that. i'm going to eventually watercool this bastard, and i don't see any sense in spending $50+ for 2 degrees until whenever i find the time to finally wc. then i'll run 2+ volts on it, and not really care if it goes boom :)

I used to run my 1700+ T-Bred B at 2.15V ;). It did arbitrarily die, taking out two motherboards, at a later date when not overclocked... but I'm sure it was unrelated ;).

once i reduce my dependency on this machine, i won't give a rat's ass if it explodes & catches fire. well, i will, 'cause that would suck, but it won't be that big of a deal ;)
