Best way to clean WB's with household stuff..
 

Hi guys.. new to the forum, but long timer @ [H]ardForums :)
Anyways seems liket hat place lately has been slowing down, and I've stepped into watercooling and I figured I would check this place out.

anyways to the point.. I bought some used DangerDen Maze3 blocks NB/GPU/CPU blocks.. they show bacterial buildup as well as some color from the past users setup. I wish to take off the 'plexi' top and clean off the copper.

What is the best way to go about this? First I figured I could just submerge the blocks without taking them appart in somekindof solution of vinigar/water. But I am not sure about the effects of vinegar on copper/plexi top

What is a good way to clean these bad boys without making me run out to buy stuff.. I would love to use common household stuff (ahem.. common canadian household stuff)... ;)

try ketchup. the acid from the tomatoes is a good cleaner of copper.

really? hmm squirt some in and use a brush to rub it around?

i did read somewhere that it was good to clean copper
but if i'm wrong i'm shure i should get flamed for it nicely

ketchup and vinegar both contain acetic acid which will remove surface dirt from copper. Just don't soak it too long as it will corrode the metal.

i fill a bowl with about 1 tablespoon of vinegar, one teaspoon of salt, and boiling water. soak the block in it intill it looks cleaner. This and the methods above are slow and inneffective Imho.

The *best* way i have found to clean waterblocks, heatercores, etc. is either a mix of hot water and VTFR (Vehicle Traffic Film Remover, AKA TruckWash) or a mix of cold water and Sodium Hydroxide (AKA Caustic Soda), if you choose either of these methods i take no responsability for any accidents, if you burn your lungs out or melt your hands off, its your fault.

Any good hardware store sells copper cleaning products, they would be the best method.
