Do better 'blocks mean better 'clocks? In your experience, have you recieved better overclocks when using a more expensive (read better) than a cheaper (read poor)?

I think I read a rule that every 10c tempeprature drop gives about +30mhz.
A better waterblock will let you clock higher but it is often not noticable. However a worse block wont cope with heat loads as high as a good block which means when you increase voltage the block wont be able to take away all of the heat and some will build up making the % overclock worse with more voltage. Also I would assume elctromigration happens slower when using a better block as the chips temperature will be lower, allowing you to use more voltage safely

It all depends on the cpu sometimes running cooler will help othertimes it will not.

no its not bs. CMOS has the ability to work faster at lower temps becuase it reduces resistance in the chip and basicly has the same affect as increasing voltage, only without the risk. I couldnt remember the exact numbers, might have been 30c for 10mhz. This is a documented affect of temperature so Id apprecheate it if you didnt just say BS without evidence to back you up, because it makes you look stupid. I havent found any evidence yet but I will if requested, I thought it was well known, also how do you think phasechange gets so amazing temps? THATS how it works. Also I see your post count isnt very high either, I know mines not any higher than yours, but dont go spamming BS without evidence with a low postcount!

i dont think anyone disagrees that lower temps equates to higher clock speeds, but the "10c for 30mhz rule" is debatable. while that may be the case for one cpu, it may not be the case for another. every cpu is different after all.

deathBOB, having a better block MIGHT help, but only if your current one totally sucks. is it worth your time / money to get a better block that may or may not allow you to OC more?

That would be a rough estimate, and not always true, but any quick "rule of thumb" is better than what we have right now: nothing! ;)

The Cascade block is the best block so far, and it has the unique property of being able to spot cool the processor, making it a better overclocker than one might expect, given the above "rule of thumb".

Yes Yes i know it being cooler may mean it can run faster but you cant say that if you lower the temp by 10C it WILL run 30mhz faster. Its dependant on the cpu by what your saying if i could cool my p100 cpu to a low enough temp it could be as fast as my 2500barton. Me thinks not

and i dont think post count has much to do with things either. Im no newbe you know:)

In answer to the origninal question: Yes a better cpu block can give you a higher cpu clock speed but its far from a cirtanty.

I dotn have any blocks as it is... I am planning on building a watercooling system, as air is not really an option for me... The thing I ask myself is whether the more expensive blocks are worth it over the high quality but cheaper ones, say the TC-4 or Spiral...

One question: Is this type of P4 waterblock hold down enough for proper contact?
