celron vs P3 for in car use, best temp?
I'm trying to find out temp differances betwen stock cooled celron 1.2 and stock cooled P3 1.2 , I'm running a celron 1.2 now in my car with temps of about 120 F , I'am thinking of useing P3 1.2 to get some more speed but we are all ready haveing some heat problems "when the car sits in the sun and realy hot days when not running ac".
|
so nobody know if a celron 1.2 runs hotter than a P3 1.2?

Thanks, I figuare about 1 amp and 3 watt more on the P3 so it should get a little hotter. Looks like I need to build a peltier "helper" maybe controled by a circuit that would react to the fan speed, "cpu fan kicks up to high peltier kicks in"

something a friend of mine was considering was to buy a fast CPU and underclock it..
it shouldn't put out as much heat that way... as long as it has enough clock ticks to do what you want it to do... |
why not a mobile 2400, duh, thats what they are for. a whole 42watts to cool at the MOST
|
Another option would be to use the Via Epia Mini-ITX motherboards that have "fanless" cpus, due to their very low power ratings.

as far as i knew. they were.

the mobo I use is the size of 5 cd cases and runs on dc, alot of the part are laptop parts HD, cd rom & memory
|
then go with a low end celly, much less heat.
my option though. those via chips are the best way to go |
as it is the celron 1.2 is just useable, we need that extra speed for some software, like gps and video processing. this is for a low cost system we are using p4 2.4 gig on our high end system but the cost is much higher. "got to have some thing for the little guy, lol"
|
my personal option imagex, if your doing this for comercial reasons, DONT
to many counties are coming out with laws now that drivers can't have "display screens" with in their line of sight while driving. in board dash computers and shit would violate those laws. besides, for around 900 bucks they could get a laptop just as powerful as anything youcould hack together for car use. if you want to make money, work on producing afordable satalite internet for vehicles. |
MY friend is going to do a carputer, what the plan is, is to get a 2400+ mobile and underclock it to about 1 ghz.
As for the display screens...in the US its ok as long as you dont display video/dvds. You can have GPS, ECU, etc stuff there no problem. Also I dont think it can directly face the driver, it has to face out like a headunit. |
We have dvd/video lock out in place already via our control box " the car must be in park (automatics) or the e-brake must be engaged (sticks)". also laptops don't have touch screen's for a easy interface and the audio is not really up to standard's we want in our system. some might want to use a laptop but then again some people think water cooling is compleatly useless, and say it shouldn't be done :)

im using a celeron 633 in my upcoming system, with 192 megs of ram
|
What would be so hard about wiring a tec? As far as I know, a car is a giant 12v system, so its not like it would kill your power bill.
This kinda stuff seems like your best bet: http://www.jlmtech.net/catalog/detai...8e366478562249 I think you can deal with 16.8 W of heat :D |
I've been looking into a peltier, just getting one to fit is the fun part. I'm going to just get a p3 and do some test to see what kind of temps I get. I'll post my findings.
