Copper oxidation treatments
i have a home made block that i made out of copper, however the block tarnishes verry fast and even picks up fingerprints. what kind of coating or treatment will prevent this without affecting the heat transfer ability?

i dont think theres much you could do to the bottom of it but you could paint them with clear laquer or something similar

There's no coating that will prevent oxidisation that won't also reduce heat transfer. You can laquer the top surfaces if you want the block to look nice - the base won't tarnish in the contact area because the thermal grease will keep the air out,a nd tarnishing on the rest of it doesn't matter.

You could probably get it gold-plated for relatively cheap. Gold won't corrode in air and a typical gold-plating job isn't thick enough to hinder heat transfer by any appreciable amount.

Spray the visable area's with clear laquer after you polish it maybe? We used to do that at the engraving shop and it worked good. Don't spray the bottom though. Lap it and just install it. As said the thermal paste will keep it fine and the area around it will not be seen.
