How much heat
Hey guys
I have found this 30watt pump in the market in Australia last week, now how much heat would this pump add to the water if it was run submerged? Can anyone tell me roughly (not too roughly) how much heat is transferred or a formula to calculate the transfer of heat, because I have no clue  |
With a submerged pump, all the energy that enters the pump in the form of electricity must get out eventually in the form of heat. Nearly without exception, the power stated is the maximum the pump will consume, which occurs at peak flow/zero head. In the real world, the power consumption will always be somewhat less. How much less depends on the real flow rate.
To be conservative, simply assume peak power. Practically speaking, it's more liable to be ~1/2 to 2/3 of the power listed. |
If you use a decent radiator, don't worry about it. The increased flow will likely increase your overclock more than the increased heat will, well, if you're Cathar. ;) Seriously, while we are on that note, have you (Cathar) been able to get similar results with any other block, or is that only found (in noticeable quantities) in the Cascade?

I get <1/3 the rated power ussage on my Eheim 1250. Those numbers tend to be pretty inflated in order to cover the manufactor's ass in the event of an electrical fire or other liability.

Actually I believe they are rated on full flow, and that's impossible to acheive.
