Heres my watercooled PC.


--THE COOLING AND ENCLOSURE PARTS--

The coolant is RO filtered water with a capful of water wetter.

A custom made fan controller that uses timer controlled relays to source 12V to the fans at power up for 2 seconds, then switches each fan to a lower voltage line controlled by a reostat on the front. I used pots rather than knobs to discourage others who use the PC from changing the settings.

An Enermax fan controller with the guts out. Personally I thought their fan control circuitry sucked so I built my own. ( see above ) After paying $30 bucks for it I now know that everything with the word Enermax on it is not neccesarily a quality item. I use the display to show temps and RPM. I can use its two RPM displays for four fans by means of toggling the RPM input via two switches on the front by the reostats.

--HOW ITS SET UP--

The top area of the case contains the fan controller, display, rheostats, and CDRW drive as well as the rad with push pull 172mm fans on shrouds. They pull air through a large filter at the rear of the case , through the rad and out the hole where a drive plate is missing in the front. It doesn’t share air with the lower area. Both fans run at 1000RPM. Sheets of sound matting around the air chamber at the rear create an airbox for the rad to make sure all air comes through the filter. I’ve removed the matting in some of the pics to show how its built.

The lower area is cooled by a 172mm fan @ 1000RPM on the bottom of the case pulling air up through a filter, and a 120mm Pabst fan at the rear pulling air through a filter as well at around 1200 RPM. Air exits the front through a missing plate where a floppy would go. The power supply and pump are side by side in the front of the case. The pump is mounted with its axis up to prevent air being trapped, and is nested in a foam cube to dampen any vibration. The PSU is cooled only by one 80mm fan @ 1600 RPM. You have to put your ear on the case to hear either one. I have not yet built a mounting for the drive so its just laying on the bottom of the case.

Many areas of the case have sound damping matting applied. Overall its very quiet which was the design goal. Your questions or comments are welcome.
