Mounting on a 478 mobo

Hey all, I'm a newb to the whole watercooling thing, and plan on building a WC system sometime this summer. I have been doing a fair amount of research and have pretty much figured out my setup, but there is one thing I'm not sure about. That is, how does the waterblock mount on a socket 478 motherboard? More specifically, a Danger Den TDX on a Gigabyte 8knxp mobo.

I can't see any screw holes or anything on the board, and the TDX looks like it uses screws, but I can't really tell.. does anyone have any ideas?

Err.... Well that covers AMD anyway. Doesn't look like a 478 clip available. probably because the socket is to small for one. Gigabyte for whatever reason decided that enthusiests are not in their best intrest by not putting mounting holes around the sockets.

So.. there's no way around this other than to just buy a new mobo?

You can e-mail Danger Den and ask if they ave a socket tab mount for the 478. I kinds dount they do or will because the block covers the tabs on the Intel socket making it impossible to make one if I remember correctly. AMD has a much larger socket than Intel as the CPU's are larger.

An alternative the the TDX would be the new Swiftech MCW6000 or MCW6002. The performance is right up there with the TDX and it does have the socket tab mount clip. http://www.swiftnets.com

That orange frame is held onto the motherboard by those white "screws" that go through the motherboard. You remove the Orange frame and the white "screws" (they are probably pop in fittings) and screw through there.

What he said. The pic for whatever reason is not loading on my comp. I googled that board and indeed it has the mounting holes. Remove the orange frame and the holes are there. :) Would have been good if Gigabyte used holes for AMD.

Pic below of an AMD board. No holes. They seem to have a habbit of doing that to all the AMD boards. One reason I never bought one...

Yes BalefireX is right, you can take out the orange mounting bracket by taking off the white bolts 1st then try to slowly un-hook the the bracket from the bottom side of the board.

I really dunno if what block is great for a P4 but i've heard that a DTek white water is nice to use. Not a P4 user here.
More of an annoyance for AMD users just like jaydee said.

I am a P4 user..
run the DTek white water and it works well for me...
I have removed teh IHS then had to mod the mounting a little bit to adjust for the decrease in height of the CPU...
works well...

MadHacker
Can you please get the dimensions of the P4 core.
Is it in the center of the inlet jet of the White Water block, do the channels on the block cover all the area of the core?
Thank ya ;)
