N00B seeking help with WC/Pelt setup

Hello,

I'm trying to come up with a water cooling solution for an Athlon 64 processor. Further - I'd really like to get some speed out of the chip (I'm thinking a 2800+ which is a 1.8GHz) - I'd love to get it well above 2Ghz.
Anyway, I think a WC solution with a peltier should do the trick without too many loud fans involved.

Here's what I have put together so far... please let me know what I should change:

Dtek WW CPU block (1/2" fittings)
DD Maze4 GPU block (1/2" fittings)
DD Maze4 Chipset block (1/2" fittings)

172W DRIFT 0.8 Potted Pelt - For CPU
120W DRIFT 1.15 Potted Pelt - For GPU

Don't know how much power I need for the pelts.

Black Ice Xtreme II Radiator
Black Ice Xtreme Radiator
(I've heard some good and bad things about the Black Ice - can anyone recommend a better radiator?)

Wet and Chilly Chips 450mm P/A reservoir
(I would have a friend in the UK send the above part over if possible)

Mag Pump 9.5 (950GPH -- is this too much?)
10' Clear Tubing

I was thinking a Y off of the pump one going to CPU->XtremeII->Reservoir the other Chipset->GPU->Xtreme->Reservior.

I don't know much about the Pelts - so I don't know if the above listed is what I need. Also - how much power would be needed to drive those?

I'm thinking of using a Lian Li PC-75B Full Tower. It seems to be tall enough that if I need to put two power supplies in there I can fit them in the top. But it's a little on the spendy side for something I'm going to be dremeling/drilling.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, the pump is too much.

A giant dual heatercore would be better, maybe two... plus they would be about 1/3 the price of both those rads combined.

Why all the trouble at this point?

You seem to be a guy with some spare change given you have a Opteron to begin with. And if you add up all the costs associated with your proposed water cooling setup, plus the fact you will need to buy an additional, rather expensive power supply (your pelts as you envision will burn ~475W by themselves, constantly), and the $300 case, I don't see why you just don't bump it up a little bit more and get a Vapochill. Granted the GPU won't be liquid cooled, but the CPU will run a lot cooler, you'll get a higher overclock, and consume only about a fourth of the excess power from the wall than with your proposed dual pelt setup. Not to mention the rig will be much more tidy.

Given your buying all the components and all, I am guessing your motivated more by getting your computer as fast as possible cost-no-object, rather than for the fun of experimenting and modding. Definitely get the Vapochill I say at that cost.

Well... I do want the computer as fast as possible but I was thinking I wanted to try the WC/Pelt setup. I could get a Vapochill but then I couldn't really do much to the system myself. I suppose it would be more efficient.

I am actually motivated more for fun of experimenting. I know it won't be that tidy - but it's something to tinker with!

Sound kindof big... where would I put them?

Would I still run the chipset/GPU to one and the CPU to the other or should I just put it all inline?

Same place you put that extra monster Power Supply to run those pelts. :D Yes, still run them inline.

The Dtek WW CPU block is not meant to be used with a Pelt (no cold plate available, nor the holes in the WW for the coldplate)...

The DD Maze4-1 block does, as do most Swiftech CPU blocks.
The DD Maze4 GPU block can be fitted with a Pelt.

CD :)

Hmmm... good to know, thank you.

Can you turn the pelts on and off? I mean -- if I had WC running to them and I was just messing around on the net, not really using my cpu much, could I turn the pelt off and let the WC do the work? Then when I want to game I can flip it on and game away without worrying about my chip overheating.

Not at all!
Peltiers, when not powered, act as an insulator, meaning that you will fry your CPU within a couple of minutes...

CD :)

Ouch!... Note to Self: Big UPS for peltier power supply...

Thanks!
