Pelt supercooling with current pulsing
 

I had to write a paper for a thermodynamics class recently using Actual Journal Articles, and not just random nonsense from the web. My topic was power generation applications of thermoelectric elements (pelts running in reverse). While doing some preliminary digging, I ran into this little gem.
Wasn't of any use for my paper, but I thought of you guys the second I saw the title.

Not really applicable to what we're doing (relies on manipulating I, not V, not a steady state application), but kinda neat regardless. I suppose if the cooling setup can deal with the transient heat spikes effectively, this could be a way to achieve a better net deltaT given the surface area available to us.

The JPL has lots of neat stuff going on with thermoelectrics, for what it's worth. clicky!

Pretty cool but as you say not really applicable. It does raise the interesting possibility of sync-ing cooling to load spikes but that would not allow a sustained load such as CPUburn. With normal operation it might work well.
