JayDee's Lumpy Channel Waterblock Review Posted

I tested this block quite a while ago and am finally getting around to posting the review. An excellent effort for a DIY block in my opinion.

Here's the Review!

BTW JayDee please PM me your mailing address and I'll return the Lumpy Channel, Kingpin, and lemon blocks to you. The type R is on my test bench.

Thanks for the review ph! Great job! :)

Go ahead and keep all the blocks and do what you want with them. It will be cheaper and easier for me to make new ones. Disregard any last requests to send them back. :) When you do the Lemon Block give it a good leak test before running it live. I ran it with my Hydrothruster for a couple hours before sending it but just in case. It is the only one sealed with RTV Silicone.

haha this is funny because I was selected for random suitcase search in US Customs (I am pretty non-threatening, travelling alone, and was not in a hurry). I had to explain to the Customs officer what waterblocks were. Sure you don't want them back? No trouble to ship em from the hotel...

Oh ok. I didn't know you left already. PM on the way. Let me know of the cost and I will get it to you. :)

Talk about airports. My last job was in Leesburg by DC. We flew into Dullas and had no problems getting there but on bthe way back I thought I was going to have to bend over and cough for them to get through security!

pHaestus 06-19-2004 01:11 AM

I try to get smart going through metal detectors: I dont wear belts, dont carry change, I dont wear a watch, and I kick off Birkenstocks and go through barefoot. I STILL got stopped in security this time. They claimed the single fly button on my blue jeans must have set it off. Who knows...

Good job Jaydee116, DIY is still alive and well!:D

Thanks GF. I hope DIY stays alive. i have been somewhat disapointed in the lack of people making blocks though. To many "where can I get CAD files" or "is this design any good" type of posts and not enough "look what I did" type of posts. :D

perhaps they thought you were trying too hard.....

Got my blocks back pH. USPS nearly destroyed them. The box was all tore up in a plastic ziplock bag. Somewhere in transport the box got liquid of some type dumped on it. How one of the copper barbs on the Lemon Block got crushed and the bases all scratched beyond repair I am not sure. The top on the Lemon Block is cracked chipped and cut. They left a note in the zip lock bag apologizing for the inconvenience.

Copper for the recycle bin.

pHaestus 07-05-2004 04:17 PM

shit! I'm terribly sorry Jaydee! How the hell could they mangle copper waterblocks like that?

Certainly not your fault. I don't know what the hell happened. I can't even imagine what happened. Looks like a bunch of steel fell on them followed by liquid of some kind.

No big deal though. Won't take much time to re-mill up some better than before one's.

Sounds like your waterblocks were involved in an action packed summer blockbuster!

BalefireX 07-05-2004 05:31 PM

Your blocks have been.... Terminated.

Cathar 07-05-2004 07:23 PM

Wow Jaydee, that seriously sucks. I found that I have to pack everything super-securely when I sent it to the USA.

Amazing. I walk through metal detectors all the time at airports with keys, wallets, large metal watch, and metal capped boots, and never had anything go off ever. Then I see people walk through and get picked up for having a couple of coins in their pockets.

Seems somewhat random, or maybe I've got a severe case of lead poisoning and I just don't know about it...

Nothing short of a metal case would have saved these blocks. :( I send stuff all the time with USPS and never had anything like this happen. UPS on the other hand is dreadful at best. Can't remember all the damaged PC cases I have got over the years because UPS....

pHaestus 07-05-2004 07:42 PM

I had 3 cases in a row come damaged via UPS. Finally just had newegg take the top panel off a case and ship me just that lol

firtol88 07-05-2004 07:43 PM

Not scientific by any means but this feels acurate FME YMMV.

Fedex - Never had a problem
USPS - 85% chance of getting there whole
UPS - 75% chance of getting there whole (I'm feeling generous it may be even lower)
DHL - not enough experience

bigben2k 07-05-2004 08:16 PM

...and my favorite advice, since I used to work for an airline:
when packing... stand 6 feet from a brick wall, and throw your luggage straight out towards it, as hard as you can. If it survives, it'll make the trip. ;)

Seems to be a good rule of thumb.

pHaestus 07-05-2004 08:57 PM

DHL sucks. Worst of the bunch if you actually are depending on something to get there on time.

I will be back at it tomorrow. Headed to Utah tomorrow and then to Colorado from there on Friday then back here on the 14th. Bah... Gets old taking the laptop out of the laptop bag, taking the shoes off, watch the $1,000 laptop come flying out of the x-ray machine rumbling along the rollers and then slamming into whatever is in it's way at the end.

j813 07-06-2004 12:13 AM

OT but very educating:)

What if a block is designed with moving parts, or corrosion powder from Alu & Cu.

What is the situation with CDs(Compact Discs), are they very strict on piracy?

sevisehda 09-30-2004 01:03 PM

DHL does suck.

I had 4 boxes @ 45lbs a piece shipped next day AM. When they weren't delivered by noon I called and asked why, the customer rep said because it was so large it wasn't garounteed by noon but instead by 5pm. I asked them to get me an ETA. The rep called me back and said it would probobly be delivered by 5pm. Then I got her supervisor, she said since the total weight was over 150lbs its wasn't garunteed by noon, but it "will be delivered by 5pm". I asked if that was a garuntee and she said no that anything over 150lbs has no garuntee at all. Well I got the shipment the next day at about 330PM. Needless to say I was pretty cheesed about getting something a day and a half late. Oh and to add insult to injury I can't file a claim since there are no garuntees for anything over 150lbs.

In my experience I've had 1 late package out of 50+ from fedex and UPS combined, DHL is now 0-1. Guess I wont be using them again.
