"Y" = wye. Same thing, but wye is more common among the folks selling 'em. And wye is more search engine friendly.

First pic, with pump-wye-rad-wye-comp-res-pump, is the easiest variation on your original. It will increase your flow, and requires only buying the two wyes.

Second pic, with pump-comp-wye-rads-res-pump, will give slightly better flow. Every fitting impedes flow, eliminating the second wye by use of dual inlets on the res will give a bit of improvement. If you're making your own reservoir, this arrangement is great.

Your water temperature will always be above the ambient air temperature, so insulating the hoses will just hold heat in. Bare hose = good (as I always tell the ladytypes).

The order of your parts makes almost no difference. Rads and the beginning, rads at the end, rarely more than a 0.2 C difference.
