The power supply won't pull 500watts unless your computer needs it. It will only pull as much as necessary (plus a little bit due to inefficiency). So, if you really wanted to get an exact measure on how many watts your rig requires, you could look up the specs of all the hardware, like hard drives, cd-rom drives, etc. They usually state how many amps they take from the 5V and 12V rails. Then add them all up.
